hardwire radar detector

Can anyone tell me what wire I should use to hardwire a radar detector on a 2005 Titan LE? I have a wire kit for a Passport 8500. I want the detector to come on when I turn the ignition on.
Also where is the best place to get a manual?

I have an 05 se, I wired mine into the overhead compass. Just find a wire that is hot with igniton, but dead without ignition.

I downloaded the manual from nissans website for 20 bucks.

Re: hardwire radar detector

If you dont have the compass (not sure if some dont) you can push the wire inside the headdliner across the topof the window. For this you wont need to remove anything but the a-pillar. Run it down the passenger a pillar and behind plastic dash to the fuse box. Find yourself an acc fuse that comes on when the truck power is on. On the left side there is a blue 15amp fuse labled "ACC power consol" or somthing. You can put a connecter on the wire and stick in there. I did it this way so i can remoe easily in case i have to give the detector back to the owner i borrowed from lol.

Thanks Leadsled124 and helomech.... I will try the blue acc fuse in the panel. I went out to Nissan's website and the manual was 295.00 for paper and 219.00 for CD....

Crimp a flat metal conector to the wire so you can simply plug into the fuse (above or below)

Passenger side power socket or go to the passenger side fuse box and use a fuse adapter.

Re: hardwire radar detector

You can tap the lighter socket circuit at the fuse panel in the passenger side dash using a Littlefuse mini blade add-a-circuit. Then you can easily run a wire under the dash, along the firewall, to the other side of the cab. There are markings on the inside of the fuse panel cover. IGN indicates which one is switched with the ignition. BAT indicates which one is always powered.

Re: hardwire radar detector

I simply pulled the center panel cover straight out with even force on both sides to gain access to both lighter sockets in the center dash. I used the switched one is for the radar detector and the unswitched one is for the CB Radio. Just be gentle not to break any expensive plastic....

Re: hardwire radar detector

I'd probably wire it into my *** becuse radar detectors suck. Ive never had one that worked good and give tickets to people with them all the time. It only takes a moment to lock someone on radar. The only benifit to RDs are against the cops who drive around or sit continuosly with their radar unit activated.

my passport was pretty good for the 10 years I used it and did get nailed once by an officer that had ka band in his back window - he was traveling in the same direction as me and hit me with the "instant on" - yep that was a ticket LOL.

but now that I have my Valentine 1 --- WOW it's 10x better than my passport was.....

Yes, I've gotten tickets with my radar detector also, but I was hit with laser and the other time I was ignoring my K band going off. My laser went off, but that just means to be prepared for a ticket. K band is used on automatic doors and it wasn't that strong of a signal so I ignored it, but it happed to be a cop. To truly use a radar detector properly you have to know which signals to take seriously.

If a cop knows how to use his radar gun (instant on) there isn't much you can do, but if he's hitting cars in front of you you'll be able to detect that. Most cops are lazy and have theirs on all the time anyway.
