Re: what gps

I like the Rhino 120 I have. A few of my friends have them as well and you can set it up when you key the radio it will plot you on thier GPSs. Cool feature if you are convoying.

I have the Garmin Nuvi 350 and love it, of course it is a couple years old now but the Nuvi series seem to be really good.

Re: what gps

I'd simply recommend getting good text to voice output and a 4.3" Screen as the main features to not skip.

Re: what gps

I've been reading reviews from pc mag on units under 350$. They all seem to be pretty much the same.

Re: what gps

I run Garmin XT on my cell phone.

Here's a screen shot, I modified it to have a generic red truck (when I have time I'll try to do a Titan)

Re: what gps

I have a Nuvi 5000 that just replaced my nuvi 680 (transferred to the wife's van). The 680 was great, and still is. The nuvi 5000 has a slightly larger screen (5.2") but a few less features than the 680. My father-in-law has a nuvi 250W and really likes it as well. For the titan imho, I wouldn't get anything less than the 4.3" as you are a bit away from the screen as you drive. I have mine mounted in the large recessed storage on top of the dash/radio cluster. If you search there is someone who showed instructions on how to mount and wire it up so you don't see the cigarette adapter plug and no unsightly wires. I've had a Sony NAVU (3.5") some time ago when they first came out and am very happy that I moved to the Garmin. There are lots of options and price points with Garmin so you can pretty much pick the features you think you need. Hope this helps.

Re: what gps

As BigMoFoFrog said, Garmin is the best of the reasonable GPS. The recessed area on top of the radio has a groved mat on the bottom that is easily removed. You can pop the whole panel off and drill a hole to bring your power up through. Mount the GPS and you will not be dissapointed. I mounted my Garmin there and it works great. Later, you can pull the Garmin off and put the mat back into the recessed area and no one will ever know there is a hole there. I would not spend all the money for the newer units as most of that extra software is junk. Just make sure you have the text to speach which actually names the streets you are turning on to. Some of the older ones only tells you when to turn but not the street name. Any of the Nuvi Garmin units will work good for you. Just pick the screen size. They are all touch screen. I have the Garmin 330 and it is all I need. They sell for less than 200 dollars. The Nuvi is a little thinner unit but the operate about the same. Remember , once you find which one you want, they are a lot cheaper on the internet and no taxes.

Re: what gps

I'd recommend Garmin like all the other fellas here as well. I cover the northern half of Cali for my job, on the road all the time, and my Nuvi 200 has been everything I need and more for the last year. It's got accurate maps pre-loaded (with the ability to update) and I like the extra features like being able to quickly search for hotel, restaurant, gas, etc...

I've also noticed a lot of the newer models are coming out with widescreen. I am lost on why this is a real advantage - are people watching hi-def movies on these things or what? I understand the advantage of a bigger screen to see more map, but why not make them bigger all around?

TomTom makes a good unit. I don't think it is as good as Garmin but to each his on. The TomTom one has been a very good unit and currently sells for around 100 bucks. If I was not going to buy a Garmin, that would probably be my second choice.

Re: what gps

I use my IPhone with Google maps. I was on Engadget the other day and spotted this one...kinda caught my attention, seems to be full featured.

Good Luck

I have a TomTom 910 but I'm guessing thats above your price range if your looking at $350, I really like it, it's the 3rd one i've owned, very good product and easy to update either on the fly or via DL.

Good luck.
