Re: what gps

Currently, I own the Garmin Street Pilot 550. Prior to this one I used the 330.
Both are very good, although the 550 is better equipped with features and
performs better.
A factor one has to consider is where one travels. Since I drive to Canada and Mexico often, I wanted to make sure I had a GPS that had the maps for my destinations. Also, the more the channels the better, since the satellites orbiting in space are stationary and the earth is rotating, fewer channels means less likely of good reception in case some satellites are not available to send signals due to obstructions-buildings, forestry, mountains, clouds etc.

Re: what gps

So where do you guys have yours mounted? I am a bit out of space as my Sirius Radio is in the little cubbie on top of the dash, I am thinking of getting the beanbag dash mount or the vent clip, any suggestions?

Re: what gps

For those you who recently bought the Garmin 660. make sure you register it online and get all the updates. I just updated the firmware and new Bluetooth support. It use to drop the connection all the time. New BT firmware fixed that. Also you should be eligible for the updated 2009 US map that just went up. Take about 2-3hrs to download so set some time aside. Gotta love all the software support Garmin provides.

Re: what gps

when updating the firmware using the webupdater app make sure you scroll down before you click update. You will see a list of "additional updates" that are not part of the firmware. The bluetooth update is one of them.

Re: what gps

Just picked up the nuvi 260w and so far it seems pretty good. I'm in the process of updating to the 2009 maps this very moment. Going to install it in the dash today if I can figure out how to get the pieces off. Can't seem to find the post on it.

I see walmart selling the Garmin 260 for $260. Good price.

They didn't carry the 260 at the Wal-Marts here in town. I ended up getting it from Best Buy. Very pleased with it so far. I finished up the install and it came out good. Ran the power wire through a small hole in the top of the dash and tied it in to the cigarette lighter out of sight.

Re: what gps

I just got the Garmin Nuvi 200W for $180 at Office Depot. It doesn't speak the street name, but shows the name onscreen and says when to turn via voice. Works great, Excellent interface and very bright clear screen. I'm lovin it!

That is a good price for the 200wide. I think Walmart is selling them for 199 and the standard for about 270.
