Took steering wheel off have question????

I added the volume controls to my truck and removed the steering wheel to do it, as I removed the wheel I had to give it some pretty good taps from behind to get it off. My question is when I went to put it back on and lined everything up it really wouldn't go back down.... I got the center screw on and screwed it down as tight as I could but I feel its not seated all the way... Is it? Or do I have to take it back off and tap it in the center with a hammer and seat it back on??? I don't want the wheel coming off on the freeway!!!

where did you get the volume controls and how did you take it off to install them?
