Had to cut a seatbelt.

Hmmm, okay so this saturday night, me and a friend picked up some girls and went to a buddy of mines birthday party. we get there, and when were about to get out , the girl in the back middle seatbelt managed to get stuck in it. The belt would release when the red button was pressed, but it somehow was tight around her arm and neck...i know it sounds confusing but she was stuck. i tryed to pull the seatbelt back, so the lock would release, and it just got tighter. she said she couldnt breathe and was feeling clostrophobic (sp?) and already has problems with asthma, so we had no choice but to cut the seatbelt. Was this a manufacture fault because the seatbelt would not unlock? do you guys think the dealership will replace this for free? and if not, should i take the matter to corporate nissan and talk to them about it?

Re: Had to cut a seatbelt.

They replaced mine on a re-call....

Call the dealer to see if it was also on the 07's...

Good luck..

Re: Had to cut a seatbelt.

I haven't received any recall notice for seatbelts on my '07. Hopefully the dealer or Corporate will replace it to avoid any negative publicity though.

Re: Had to cut a seatbelt.

Tightan07- you have the best memory of exactly the situation as it's pretty tough to relay by words... I don't understand how it could not be removed if the seatbelt clasp released the belt, but if in your opinion it was extraordinarily difficult to remove the seatbelt and the woman was in danger, absolutely complain and make them replace it. That sort of situation makes me nervous if in an emergency for some reason I didn't have my knife with me!

Re: Had to cut a seatbelt.

Very interesting...I find that when I sit in the back seat of my 08 CC Pro4X (behind the passenger seat) , the seatbelt won't loosen- it just keeps getting tighter and tighter, until I have to press the button and unclasp the belt. There is never any slack, so I can't reach down to the floor if I have to. This gets very annoying.

Does this happen to anyone else???

Who ever sits in the BACK of their own titan?? just kidding but no haven't had the problem. just chiming in. Maybe something to do with the spring that controls the pre-tensionor...

Re: Had to cut a seatbelt.

Hey man. That is definitely pretty scary. I would make sure they are aware that it was such a serious situation and they should fix it no questions. This makes me nervous because there have been several occasions where passengers in my truck have complained about the seat belt locking on them. I tell them to just un-buckle and put it back on. I had a recall on my 04' about the back center seat belt at one point. But i have heard complaints from all back seats. Keep us updated on what they say, I am curious. I always have a knife in the door pocket just in case.

Ha!!! I thought of that while I was writing the post. I sat in the back with my three-year old on a long trip while my wife drove. The seatbelt was driving me nuts!!!

My Titan is from the US, and I brought it home to Canada before the 6 month US registration period was up, so I understand I don't have warranty up here. I wonder if they would look into it anyway? I'll have to call the local dealership.

I do have aftermarket warranty from Auto Repair Warranty- I might have to see if they would cover a fix.

What recall was that?

I complained about this in May of 2004. The dealer and Nissan said that is the way the belts were designed...like a Boa Constrictor???

Re: Had to cut a seatbelt.

Hell I use to have this problem with my front passenger seat. It would tighten up and not unlock unless you undid it totally and let it retract all the way in. I brought it to the dealership and they replaced it.

Re: Had to cut a seatbelt.

I might have to call Nissan about this also as the rear middle seatbelt gets tight on passengers and my wife when we are going anywhere with my daughter.
