What a bad tuesday!

Part 1. First off let me tell you the titan holds up pretty well in an accident
I was heading south on a 4 lane hwy near a mall @about 48ish as I approaced the light that was green I saw an Ford Explore (SP) in the intersection making a left, the light had turned red for her but for reasons I had yet to discover she stopped in the intersection then started to move I assumed she would continue with her turn didnt happen she stopped again I had slowed down to around 40 not sure what she was doing I looked to my left and there was a car in that lane looked to my right same thing a car I later found out she was fighting with the little boys trying to keep them from jumping an the seats Fricken dipchit lady could have gotten them killed Thank God they are okay,I dont think I could handle killing 2 little boys my fault or not! I pushed on the breaks so hard I fractured my right ankle during impact, I watched my pride and joy crumble before my eyes as I t boned the ford, I realized that the potential of the air bags going of and closed my eyes thinking this is going to hurt, I have been told air bag deployment can be painfull, anyway nothing happened! they did not go off and I bashed my head against the steering wheel leaving a nasty wound. I got out of my severly injured Titan and went to check on the ford **** there where 2 little kids in the ford and no child seats, they were a litle dazzed as we all were, I am an emt so I did a quick assesment on both the boys they seemed fine, I asked the lady if I could examine her as she was already out of the explorer looking at her damage, then she told the 2 little boys in spanish to start crying rolling around and acting like they were really hurt bad when they heard the sirens, I dont think she understood I could speak spanish, so I heard the sirens and began to check my truck out( BTW disconnect your battery if you can God forbid that any of you get in an accident, but disconnect the battery if there is no fluid ie gas leak etc the FD cuts themharness and all) man what a sad site the front end was destroyed my billet grill was in litttle pieces the headlights hanginging the doors were jammed up pretty bad crumbled hood, glass everwhere I am sure you guys have seen stuff like that anyway eveyone turned out to be fine, of course the 3 in the explorer took an ambulance to the hospital the lady was complaining about every part of her body hurting and said she could not move or walk, but she had the energy to walk around her vehicle it must have been the sirens that really hurt her.I refused treatment bad ankle and a bump on the head and the hospital cant fix a broken heart (metaphor) but I felt like I was hit by a train the next morning damn! so anyway she got some BIG azz TICKETS no proof of ins no child seats $950.00 per child+ child endagerment and so on, I was cited for running a red light how and why I dont know I will find out in court when I fight it, question #2. why didnt my air bags deploy and it seems the seat belt failed because I bashed my head against the steering wheel, is that normal occurance at 40ish. BTW total damage to my baby $7500.00 Thank God for insurance but I dont think they are going to renew me at the same rate. sorry for the long post I was venting and did have those questions about the air bags and safety belt. Thanks for reading my book.
Peace,
Goose

Re: What a bad tuesday!

Icky. that sucks Goose! Sorry to hear about ur truck, glad to hear everyone was ultimately okay. Stupid Biotch with no fricken carseats for her kids, I woulda freaked on her, that is my crazy side, protecting ur kids is #1. And ppl who don't should be hurt, that is one of the most blatant ignorant forms of child abuse, in my opinion.
Anywho, I think ur airbags probably should have came out, my sister just got bumped into at a light and her Jeep Liberty deployed from every direction, and it only pushed her bumper into the car in front of her.
Again, glad everyone is okay, sucks about ur truck and ankle. Get them to check everything when u get it fixed. Take care.

Re: What a bad tuesday!

I'm so sorry to hear about what happened. I'm glad everyone was ok, it could have been so much worse.

My mom got into a pretty bad accident driving a Ranger several years ago. It was dark and raining pretty hard, someone had an alternator go bad on their vehicle and left it disabled in the middle of the road with absolutely no lights on. She hit it pretty hard, it looked bad enough that the airbags should have came out IMO. Luckily she was OK, it totaled out her truck though.

I was driving a company vehicle (Dodge Ram) on a 4 lane road with no shoulders in a city a couple years ago, I was in the right lane with a car next to me in the left lane. All of the sudden that car decided to move over into my lane, I guess he didn't see me. The back quarter panel of his car hit the front fender of my truck and forced me into a telephone pole, we were traveling about 40MPH. I also braced for the airbags to come out, but they didn't. That accident ended up totaling out my vehicle.

So apparently it takes a pretty hard hit to cause the airbags to deploy. Once again, I'm glad everyone is OK, be safe!

Sounds like that woman is a leech on society anyhow. What's the chance she'll pay her fines? Good luck fighting the ticket in court, I hope you win.

That pisses me off that even in emergencies people are still looking for self gain. It's sad that some people have degenerated in to pulling some crap like that.
Sorry to hear about your titan, and hope you have a speedy recovery.

Uhh airbags should go off. Remember they test at 25/35/45mph hits. Sounds like Nissan has some explaining to do

Re: What a bad tuesday!

Glad everyone ended up OK.

A couple of points...

What triggers airbags is not just speed or where the impact is, there are a lot of variables involved and the airbag unit takes all of them into consideration to determine if the airbags should be deployed or not.

Also, you got the ticket because she was in the intersection before the light turned. Regardless of if the light was red for her and green for you, she entered the intersection before the light changed and has the right of way to complete her turn before you were to enter. You're very lucky that's all you were ticketed for, you obviously had time to react appropriately, ramming someone's car because they didn't get out of your way is not appropriate. It doesn't matter why she was still in the intersection, the accident was avoidable and it was caused by your actions, not hers.

Honestly, I'm surprised nobody else has commented on your irresponsible action, you could have killed someone.

Ya know yahooligan we could split hairs over that one, but I choose not too, bottom line the little ones are okay and knowone was hurt badly. That is the ultimate outcome. In closing it was the officer that said had SHE been following the road rules I would not have happened Hence me be typing about about an accident....................................

Re: What a bad tuesday!

I was surprised that both my airbags went off in a 20 mph accident. Even odder was the fact that what happened to my truck was the lower subframe of my Procomp lift kit got snagged on a concret block. That was the whole accident My front end didnt it anything and yet both airbags went off. I always thought the front AIRBAG sensors behind the bumper had to get crushed b4 the bags went off. Def not in my case.

Was it a sudden stop, like your subframe hit the concrete block and your truck stopped in its tracks? There is an inertia sensor for the airbags, you can trip that sensor and have the airbags deploy without doing anything to the impact sensors. Similarly, there's a roll-over sensor to trigger the side airbags (if equipped) that don't need any impact sensors to be touched.

Re: What a bad tuesday!

The impact was very sudden I had about 5 seconds to brake but we hit pretty hard, the repairs on my truck amount to $7500.00 And I am a little spooked about the air bags and saftey belt, the saftey belt should have kept me from hitting my head on the sterring wheel, I dont know why it did not lock.
I am going to have it checked, but I do not want to take it to the Dealer I am afraid that if anything goes wrong down the line Tranny Or any part of the drive trane, the dealer will not honor my warranty.
Peace,
Goose.

I won't side with anyone. I put the blame 50/50 on this one with the info we have all read. It is against the law to block an intersection. You are not suppose to enter the intersection unless you have safe passage through it and where I live you will get nailed for this. Even if the light is full on green and you sneak out there to make a left turn across traffic you can be ticketed. One strike against her. 1goose should have been more defensive and stopped, he misjudged what she was doing and crashed into her, one strike against him. The right of way could go either way. If she stopped in the intersection and the light was red she is blocking the intersection and blocking his right of way, she failed to enter the intersection with a safe passage all the way through, too busy paying attention to improperly seated children, strike 2 and 3 on her.
IMO they both made mistakes.
Bottom line is I hope the kids OK and hope the leech of a women gets nothing for acting the way she did.

You should contact Nissan and file a complaint. The airbags should of engaged during contact. You could of broken your neck, fracture your forehead or even a cause of death by head trauma. Very serious problem dude. Glad to hear no one was seriously injured. You should becareful though, she might try and sue you. Fight that ticket in court, they sighted you for running a red light which makes the accident your fault. Since she was the one that ran the light, you shouldn't been at fault or even cited. Good luck bro.

Re: What a bad tuesday!

in me experience with titan airbags they only go off when absolutely needed. The first titan i had i hit the ditch doing 150kmh jumped an approach hit a power pole between the box and the cab then rolled multipul times truck was a total right off, first estimate was $38,000 body damage, no airbags and i escaped with out a scratch except for the huge bump and bruise from my laptop hitting me in the head, my second titan i hit a deer head on doing about 60kmh not wearing my seatbelt airbag deployed and kept me from smashing into the steering wheel, @`12,000 damage. And yes titans do hold up very well in crashes, not long after i got her out of the shop from the deer i was t-boned by a hyundai accent that was doing like 80kmh, she hit my passenger steering tire bounce off my door and into my passenger drive tire $7,000 damage to me, i thought the driver of the car was dead when i got out to exchange insurance info
