It can be both difficult and easy to get a CCP in california. It all depends on the county you are in. I know in my county and the surrounding counties where my father teaches CCP classes, it is not difficult. All you need is a 4-6 hour class and then a shooting test consisting of 50 rounds. Then you get your permit after paying however much the state charges you and the instructor charges.
oh hm maybe it is easier some places like the central valley? where are you located?
Around here in the 925/510 they're just ridiculous with their gun laws trying to cut back violence.. Oakland banning sale ammunition and all.. freakin california

XD users, the "gear" set that comes with our firearms, that cheap holster that I hope nobody uses... that holster would be GREAT to mount into the console like the OP stated. I like the idea, but wouldn't spend $50 on a blackhawk holster for that kinda mod when I could do it for free!

That's exactly what I did.

But....you gotta take the time to open the center console. What carjacker is going to wait whilst you gather your things?

I'm sure the carjacker, (if he/she is right up on you), will not give you time to find your weapon, no matter where you may have it...
Every situation is different out there...Hopefully luck/skill will be on your side if you have to use deadly force...
Easier than trying to fish it out my pocket or holster when I have a seat belt on. What it takes a whopping 1/2 second or less to flip open the console.

It's the Blackhawk Serpa holster. Very nice holster. Has a little bettun on the side that you push to unholster your weapon. Locks in real nice.
That's what I have on my duty belt. Then off my duty belt I have a right leg holster for the other XD40. That holster is a snap, set at hand lenght for easy reach as well.

Your "gear" holster looks different then mine does..you mod yorus???
I'm waiting on an XD .40 sub compact, it was on backorder when i ordered it 2 weeks ago :-( ... Very excited to recieve it when it comes in though. I doubt I'll mount the holster in the center, but i might put it in the door... It would be easier to reach it in the door. Although after i get sworn in somewhere, it'll be on me all the time, so i prolly wouldnt use a holster mounted in the truck much...

You'll love the XD40 SC..they are a sweet gun! I'm hoping my department I'm going for will allow XD's to be used for duty guns. I hate glocks....
Mainly why i went with the SC was so i could use it as a secondary (no matter what duty gun i get, Ill have an XD). Hoping it'll make for a decent ankle weapon. People keep telling me it'll be heavy for an ankle, but im gonna try it anyhow to see just how it feels for me. I've shot a 5" XD 45 before, and absolutely fell in love with it. One of my friends has shot the XD .40 SC, and now wants to replace his Taurus with the XD... Im guessing noone on here has tried putting the XD in an ankle holster? Would love to know how it felt.

Going into law enforcment myself, I feel the same way. I'm still trying to get policy information for the department I'm testing through but IIRC the department I'm going for allows XD for duty guns.
I am hoping they are as I want to use my XD40 service model as my duty gun, and have my XD40 SC as my BUG (back up gun). This way the mags for the service modle aslo work with the sub compact which in return, means I only need to carry two mags plus the one in each firearm.
as far as ankle holsters..I wouldn't recomend it. They really are just too big. I've heard a few people try it but stopped because 1, it's just a lil too thick, and 2, it's slightly too long in all directions. I mean youc an try it, but it's not very popular.
Another option you may want to consider is if your department policy allows you, have a duty gun, and your BUG can be a leg holster. which hangs down 3-4'' below your duty gun.
