I have had this radar detector now for 3 years and I love it. It was installed in my 04 Cavalier, but since I recently bought my Titan I decided to install in there. I decided to make a more permanent install in the truck and bought the RX75 Pro Pack to get the dash bezel, concealed LED, and external speaker. This is an extensive radar detector install and most will probably think it is not worth it, but I like to know when the cops are looking at me.
Pic #1- Display with LED above heater Vent ( Cut into dash late at nite and dremel got a little close to dash and made a couple of indentations in it. I think I will be painting the dash now to fix this)
Pic #2-External speaker mounted in dash
Pic #3-Side view of speaker. It sits right behind the perforated part of the dash by the right knee. I think a speaker of some sort was meant to be mounted here.
Pic #4-Brain box where everything comes together
Pic #5-where I got 12 volts, this is the ignition wire, Black / Red
Pic #2-Front Radar sensor(right) and Laser sensor(left)
Pic #3-Spot I used to come through the firewall
I have a pic of the rear laser detector mounted above the license plate, I will post later since it shows my plate # I need to block that out

I used the stinger because I had a bunch laying around. I used 2 3/4 sheets that were 18"X32" to do this one door. This is the only door I have done so far, but I plan on doing all four doors, floor, back wall, ceiling, and maybe all the pillars
I am the same way, I hate driving other people's cars without one. Not that I am a big speeder or anything, I just like to have my security blanket. I had a passport 8500 that I had in my old 88 chevy, my wife now has that in her equinox. I used to steal it when I was making the drive to go snowmachining in somebody else's truck. These two radar detectors by far surpass anything I have ever owned, I can pick up a cop around a slight bend and up the highway at least a mile with both of these units. Sometimes they will go off and I look forever for the cop, once I give up hope on seeing one there goes one right past me in the other direction.
You guys just need to learn how radar and laser guns work. Back this with how they are used, and you'll soon fine there is a lot of roadway that can't be speed monitored
Plus most people are just flat out dumb. Around here cops will sit in the middle of the road (the soild yellow line, turn lanes) and clock people at the top of hills lol
Clean install though..minus the nicks on the dash.. you said you're going to paint though. You painting it to look stock again, or painting it to match the outside paint color..?

Up here in Alaska the cops will sit in the intersections on the highway behind the big snow mounds in the winter trying to hide. But the highway I drive everyday had couple of over passes on it. I have actually had mine alert me with a cop on the other side of the hill. I was amazed when that happened.
I was up in the air on the paint, not sure which way to go. I like the idea of matching the outside color, but I also like the idea of matching back to stock. I am only 24, but as I have gotten a couple years under my belt I have started to like having everything resemble stock, I think it is just cleaner that way. You have any input?

Too long to tell. Unbelievable how much to install just a radar detector. The front sensors were a pain in the a$$ since I did not want to remove the bull bar, I could not fit a drill bit up there. I ended up using self tapping screws and a 90 degree turn on my drill. 45 minutes from start to finish running those wires in the cab. rear sensor probably 30 minutes with mounting and running wires along frame and into cab. I probably have about 2 hours of work in the interior with mounting the display unit, LED, mute button, speaker, and brain box.
Overall I am happy with the install with the exception of the nicks in the dash.
looks good badger.... who makes the RX75? I have owned a Passport 8500 and now have a Valentine 1 that I love.... the V1 is a lot better than the Passport too.

I have never used the V1 before. I am friends with a local shop here and I get good deals on everything I buy from him. I think I got this RX75 for $ 400 or so, and the passport 8500 was like $275 I think. I should be pretty close to the price, but it has been 3 years since I bought them. The only reason I have these is because he deals them. I will admit that they have saved me a couple times on those long trips snowmachining, I have to drive 3 hours to get to the mountains from here.
Anyone have ideas on painting dash. I don't want to rattle can it, my dad used to paint cars for a living a while back and he said he could do it. Would that be the best approach? I am not sure how auto paint would hold up on plastic. Any ideas would be appreciated.
