Just checking to see if anyone has splurged for the new Viper (5901) alarm/remote start system? My dealer over here is selling it installed for $600, what do you all think? Is a full alarm system really needed or will the factory one with remote start be just plenty? thanks
I got it with the alarma and love it. I dont want my audio stuff stolen so it was a bonus when I had the auto start installed I do like the fact that the batter on the fob gets charged with a power cord like a mobil phone. I like mine for 600 installed.

I have the 5001 alarm, no remote start. I just checked out the Viper website and I must say that it looks awesome.
One thing I would recommend is having them wire the alarm to the horn and an extra siren. The one siren is not that loud. It is only like $25 to add the horn and it makes a world of difference.
I paid $500 installed for mine a year ago, so it seems as though you got a good deal.

I just had mine installed on Friday and it's kind of trick..
There is no difference in alarm features to other alarms, as the only distinct feature is the large LCD key fob and its ability to page up to 1 mile away...
I had it installed for $730 with Glass Breakage mic, shock, and backup battery with siren. Also the features of flashing lights and hooked up to the oem horns too... I asked not to have remote starting as I don't need it as I live in Hawaii (won't snow here) and to avoid any future problems with the ignition.
Next up is to install the SPAL electric windows and MEI power door locks on my SE CC so that I can hook those up to the alarm....
We have that alarm installed in our Caliber SRT-4, it is very nice, BUT the buttons are way too easy to push. I am constantly unlocking the car, hitting function keys and everything else while the fob is in my pocket.... That is my only gripe about it though.

In order to get the remote start option on this alarm install did they have to use your valet key to bypass/over-ride the fuel pump disconnect? If so do are you worried about someone getting into your vehicle, finding the valet switch, and "shelling" your ignition to start your vehicle? I would like to have the remote start feature again, but with previous remote start alarms you had to bypass the best feature to prevent theft of your vehicle. Thanks in advance!
I was not questioning the Viper Alarm in regards to it's ability to perform it's described function. My issue with any alarm, in regards to remote start, is when the aftermarket alarm requires that a "Coded Key" be placed in a black box under the dash to permit the alarm to "Bypass" the stock feature that requires a "Coded Key" to operate the fuel pump. I have had the Viper Alarms on my trucks in the past, but I don't think I will do so again until they have a way to install it in conjunction with the fuel pump feature. My original question was to see if they (Viper) had rectified that problem.
Everyone involved in "Auto Theft" knows about aftermarket alarms and are not detered from attempting to defeat them, via the valet switch, for a few moments search. If they can take your vehicle elsewhere that is when your vehicle will be stripped!

That system is RARELY used today on remote start systems. We have been a Viper dealer for 15 years and in the last 3-4 years they have gotten away from using the 555u (key box) with newer and better bypass modules...
Thank you Juggernaut. That answers some of my question, and maybe you could tell me if the "Bypass Module" is used would that permit someone to start/steal your vehicle if they located the "Valet Button"? It would only stand to reason that if you have bypassed the fuel pump security feature that anyone with a screwdriver could start your vehicle if they found the "Valet Button" or whatever it is called. I am incorrect in this assumption? I see over 50 cars a year stolen this way, and it is primarily because the "Valet Button" is placed in a common area in the vehicle by most installers Thanks in Advance.

FALSE
It is a common misconception that this eliminates the security feature. It does not! It only allows a TEMPORARY bypass under controlled circumstances. It must see a set sequence and timing of inputs to work and even then will shutoff as soon as the brake is depressed.
A PROPERLY installed remote start system is no more likely to be stolen than one without. In fact I would believe it would be less likely. The reason I would say this is that the added wiring would add confusion/time to the thief.
Think of it this way. A PROFESSIONAL thief needs to be FAST. He does not have time to decipher additional wiring. Not to mention that EVERY shop installs their systems differently.
Finding a reputable shop that installs systems in a professional manner is tough. I will give you a hint tho.... stay away from chain stores. A GOOD install takes an experienced installer anywhere from 2-5hrs depending on the car. Anyone that tells you they can install in 30 minutes is most likely a hack.
When you check out the installer ask them how long the install takes and wait for their answer.
I highly recommend a Viper/Clifford dealer (both are Directed Electronics) and have lifetime warranty on the system (one year on remotes).
If anyone needs help finding someone in their area, PM me and I will hep you locate one.
installed my viper 5901 and the DLPK bypass module flashed for nissan models DONE works like a CHAMP
all for $380 INSTALLED.. highly recommend this alarm - remote start system
