diff cover air intake

Hey guys,

Just got a new truck, an 04 Titan 4x4. For my first two mods I was looking at getting a new differential cover and air intake. I know there is a lot out there on these already, but from your experiences which do you prefer. Also, in the after marker diff covers how do you know how much oil to put in? Is it worth getting one if there is only a little increased capacity?

Re: diff cover air intake

I run the AEM Brute Force in my 04 and I really like it.

I haven't replaced my diff cover yet as I haven't needed too. In the future I'll install a trutrac and think about changing the gearing. Do you have the finned dif. cover?

Re: diff cover air intake

I do not believe so. I actually have yet to see the truck! A friend of mine picked it up at an auction for me and I am on detail for work... I have been reading a lot of the forums though to educate myself on the vehicle. I also read a lot of people had problems with their 04 differentials blowing out. Is this just a matter of time thing or are some of them ok? Also, how do i know if my vehicle is a big tow model?

I have the Mag-Hytec Diff cover and love it. Looks great and increases the fluid capacity allowing for better cooling.

My diff has been fine thus far with about 42k on the truck, others have had failures, there is no real pattern that i've noticed.

big tow is usually indicated by the bigger mirrors, trans temp gauge, and i think a rear temp gauge but i'm not 100% sure about that one. the gearing is also a bit different for towing.

the big tow has the trans temp and also has the adjustable side mirrors... thats how you know you have big tow.. and it has 3.26 gears instead of 2.96 like the non big tow....
and you only need to worry about the rear diff it is the e-locker... those are the ones that are failing... easily handled by the true trac though..

and as for the diff cover , you need one!! the o4 has the smallest diff. cover of all the rear ends, it was the first year the titan was made and thus found out many things that needed to be changed, and that was one of them, pml and magtec make great ones and hold more capacity, but the pml one sheds head better due to its fins....

Re: diff cover air intake

About 1 week ago I installed the Volant CAI w/ the Powercore II filteron my 07. No need to oil it. It's a closed box system and it roars and looks awesome. Definitley noticed a difference in HP. Not to concerned about the MPG savings. Well worth the money. I bought it from autoanything.com. Super easy to install as well. Tech support was awesome if I had any questions. The guy's name is Daniel at Volant.
