Basic Air Filter Question

Hi all,
It's about that time to put in a new air filter, so I've been searching through the forum for some info. Unfortunately, all I can find is a bunch of threads dealing with mods or CAIs.

I just need to know what you guys consider a good drop in air filter for the stock box, no mods.

HP and MPG gains would be nice, but I don't really expect it, so I'm not asking the same old "how do I get better MPG" question.

What brand is good? Is FRAM ok, for instance? Oiled or dry? I don't do much off roading at the moment, only highway driving back and forth to work right now. What about the washable ones?

Thanks.

Re: Basic Air Filter Question

I have a K&N, and have been satisfied. It does a good job filtering, according to my UOAs. It is oiled.

My other ride has an AFE Pro Dry S. Non-oiled. IMO - these are the best thing running right now. It is washable/reusable.

Re: Basic Air Filter Question

AMSOIL also make a dry drop in filter. I would use that or a AEM Brute Force drop in or any other non-oiled filer...

Re: Basic Air Filter Question

Prior to installing my Volant PowerCore intake I was running the AMSoil filter in the stock air box. As Moze pointed out it is a dry filter. It's supposed to be very good. Analysis of the older model AMSoil filter wasn't so good but the new model addressed the issues. I was getting very good gas mileage.

Re: Basic Air Filter Question

I've never used one but Fram makes a high performance drop-in air filter "Air Hog" i believe they are called. I've seen them at Auto Zone but i don't know any reviews on them.

I have a k&n intake system, but im going to switch the filter to an amsoil intake filter, trust me they breathe so much better and dont have to be oiled after cleaning.
