Just mounted a locking Yakima block on my Titan and it worked out great.
Thanks for all the info. I had a problem finding the nuts, the home depot
near my house didn't have cone nuts but did have spring nuts. The spring works really well to hold the nut in place while mounting the block.
I then secured the back wheel and front wheel with a cable.
If someone is determined they could steal the bike but should work well for short periods.
See attached photos.

Glad it worked for you too. I did this mod almost 3 years ago...and have been carrying bikes this way since. Never any incident, nor theft as of yet. I have a TruXedo that I just roll back when I carry the bikes. Works great.

This is an awesome thread - 4 years and running! Glad to know I'm not the only person with questions about bike mounting in a Titan!
One question: I would like to get my rear wheel off of the bed of the truck so I can store camping gear underneath. I need a way to mount the bike rack bar across the truck bed. I'm considering trying to slide my Thule bar (a square bar, not round like Yakima) into the track, then securing it on both sides with cone nuts or spring nuts, then securing the rear wheel on top of the bar. This will raise the seat above the top of the cab, but the seat post is easily removed for travel.
Any thoughts???

What's gonna keep the cone nuts from moving in the channel? I think I can see what you're describing - I would build some drop brackets to hold the bar a little lower so the whole bike isn't way up there in the breeze. The brackets can each have two holes for securing them with cone nuts to the track and then the bar can be attached at the bracket.
My only concern with height is that in my case, my laydown bars on my road bike poke up about 5 inches over my roof-line, and in my work garage that would result in a pretty eff-ed up bike. Lifting the rear and exposing even more bike could have disasterous results if you forget it's back there...
The great thing about this thread is the cone/spring nut thing - It's not just for Bike mounts! I used them for my tonnaeu shock mounts. Of course, now I have to pull my tonnaeu to use my fork mounts, but I only have to do that for more than two bikes (otherwise I just lay them down under the locked cover)..

Thanks Clancy. My thought on the Thule bars mounted in the bed rails worked very nicely. I cut-down an old pair of 65" Thule bars to 63.25" and they slipped right in the rails. Secured them with cone nuts on each side, and it's a bomber set up! The seat of my mountian bike does stick up about one-foot above the roofline of the cab, but I can easily use the quick release to remove the seat post. I may look into putting an air deflector on top of my cab to reduce any remaining air drag.
I checked this thread out long time ago and still haven't purchased the parts but will now because I went from one bike to four. Rocky Mounts sell the Clutch SD mounts but at $49.95 a clutch, way too much for something you can make a save money doing it.

Which Rocky mount am I looking at? This one? http://www.rockymountsonlinestore.co...roductCode=013
The one with the lock that comes with hardware looks nicer but at that price it would be more likely to have the mount stolen than my old bike lol.

I have a set of four of those RockyMounts attached to the floor rails of my Utilitrac. I mounted them on the floor and low so that the handlebars of my bicycles would clear the topper. I fit four bicycles in at once with room for luggage between them. They stay in quite well. I haven't had them move around at all.

I didn't really want to attach those using a piece of wood. Although it looks like it would work better, I wanted something I could mount on the side of the bed's utility track and leave it there.

Understood. I needed something on the floor so the bikes could fit under the topper. Plus I don't know that the Utilitrak mounts fit perpendicular to the trak.

Could they be mounted to the util track with springnuts or cone nuts as suggested in other posts?

Yes, they could. There are three holes in the base and one of those is in the center. At time I made my wood brackets I couldn't find the spring nuts at my local hardware stores (I got a lot of blank looks). I have a pile of spring nuts now that I could use. However, by using a piece of wood to hold the mounts I have more control over where the mounts go. My mounts are shifted about 4 inches outside the trak. That gives me more room for luggage down the center even with 4 bicycles in the bed.
If you were to use the center hole it would be a little difficult to get to since it is between two posts of the mounting bracket, but it could be done. I use wing nuts to hold my 2x3 board to the trak. You could get by with 2x2 or even 1x2 and it doesn't have to span both traks either. I just happened to have boards about that length sitting around.
