Oil Sensor Location??

Hello,
I posted about this a while back, I still haven't found a solution. My problem is my oil gauge in the truck goes to high as soon as I turn the key. I have had several oil changes, changed the oil myself, checked the gauge with no oil in it, still happens. I have also put it in diagnostic mode to see if the needle was stuck, it moves back and forth in diagnostic mode then goes straight back to high. This has to be a sensor, but I can't find any information on it. I have found them for other cars but not for the Titan. Any ideas??

Re: Oil Sensor Location??

mine just did the same thing yesterday. Stays on High at any rpms over 2,000. Then at idle it goes to the center. It never used to get that much pressure. Maybe these engines get better pressure as you put more miles on them.

Re: Oil Sensor Location??

Well mine always used to pulse with higher rpms. It was almost like the speedometer, when I accelerate it went up and when I let off it would return to center. Maybe thats a sign its getting ready to go out....

Re: Oil Sensor Location??

Does anyone know if the oil pressure gauge in the Titan is a true reading or just a dummy gauge, like many, that just sit in the middle as long as there is some type of pressure?

Re: Oil Sensor Location??

The Titan has a true reading guage. If you flog it, obviously the pressure increases and it will peg up to H and then return to normal when you let off. I think they changed that on the 08's though because too many people don't realize how a 'real' gauge works.

Re: Oil Sensor Location??

Take your cover off like you are changing your oil. If your feet are sticking out the front of the truck, it will be to the left of the oil filter location, but immediately. There will be a wire harness and a plug. You can't miss it if you use these crude directions.

I figured mine wasn't a true reading since I've pegged it in neutral and it didn't budge. All it ever does is go right to the middle as soon as you start the engine. Too bad they are doing away with usefull little things with that now that computers have taken over. It's always nice to know whats going on under the hood.

Thumbs up Re: Oil Sensor Location??

Thanks Roy365, I will try to find it after work today. Do you know if I can get one at autozone and about what it costs?

No prob. I would try getting it tested with a volt/ohm meter if you can do it. If your sensor is pegging out, it could be trash collected or an opening that has shrunk to cause the pressures to rise. You can remove the sensor, remove the fitting and check all your bases. I would guess it's the fitting the sensor screws into vs. the sensor itself. I could be wrong though. At least you can play process of elimination now.

P.S. Obviously if you plan on checking the fitting, you need to wait till your next oil change.

LOL, great description, it's exactly where you say it is.

Here's a picture to help

Its a true gauge. I changed my oil today and it took bout 2 seconds for the pressure to build. I guess it had to go thru all the journals and the oil filter and then build pressure. But I saw the gauge go from barely touching zero to half way.

Re: Oil Sensor Location??

Just bought '05 Titan...Sweet Truck Blk on Blk..will post soon. Read all the post on the sensor and just would like to clarify...I have the same issue as I accelerate the pressure gauge goes with the RPM and drops back to the center when I let off. Are you saying there is nothing wrong with my sensor and that this is by design. I have owned a few cars and never seen this before. I am very aware of the operation of a pressure gauge, but never seen them operate this way on a car. Please exccuse my inexperience!!

What I gathered reading this thread is that his gauge stays on high no matter what and that the needle is not stuck, meaning his sensor may be getting a false reading. From what I read here, the Titan up until the 2008 and up were true readings rather than dummy readings. Hope that helps. I have not had this issue, the only needles that move when I drive are the temp needles and the tach and speedometer when I push the peddle on the right.
