Is hitch power connection Nissan proprietary?

Backed up my truck this morning and hit a piece of concrete with my hitch. To be exact, with the bracket that holds the power connector.

I have already bent the bracket back into place, but the connector itself is broken. When I say connector I mean the part that connects to the piece on the end of the wiring harness. So, the wiring harness and its end piece are OK, I just need the connector that attaches to it.

Is this a universal piece I can pickup anywhere, or something I need to get from Nissan?

The wiring harness from Nissan was one piece and simply plugged in under the truck. I would think that the plug section is universal for ti to be prewired to fit any trailer. Check with a local RV store or trailer hitch installer. Uhaul also sells. I would also check dealer and see which way is cheapest to replace and also which one will fit your bracket best.

The wiring adapter is an OEM style connector, but another user said it is the same as the late model GM trucks. The Nissan part number is 24340-7S000, and is about $12.50 from the dealer.

Phew, $12.50. Was having nightmares of Nissan proprietary connector costing its weight in gold.

The adapter to go to 4 wire plug that I use I bought for an 02 Sierra. It also worked on a friends Mercedes suv. I got it at U-Haul but any trailer rv dealer should have it rather than wait for your dealer to get it in.

I would suggest you at least get the OEM 7pin to standard 7pin adapter like I mentioned above then get a 7 to 4 pin adapter if need be. That way you can still hook up to trailors with 7pin hook ups as well as 4 flat plugs.

Good old Wall Mart has them for under $8 I got one yesterday if distance permits for you.

Are you talking about the OEM to standard 7 Pin or a 7 to 4 flat adapter? I wasn't able to find the OEM to 7 adapter anywhere except for the dealer.

I already have the 7-to-4 adapter. I'll check out the GM connector first, let you know if it fits. Otherwise, I'll part with $12.50 at Nissan dealer.

Rvandam, the GM connector might use the same pin arrangment as the Nissan oem plug, but it might not have the same mounting set up. The Nissan one twists and locks into the metal mount, be sure and check to see if the GM one does at well. Most aftermarket 7 pin adapters don't have this type of mount, but simply use 4 screws to hold it in the bracket.

I went to pep boys and they had the correct adapter. It has the 4 pin and the other pinout 7? pin that's common on boat trailers. It's dual purpose and it cost about $12.

So i'd say not proprietary, but always check voltage or get one the testers before actually hooking up and blowing fuses.

I had a 4runner prewired for 4 in the past, and with the adapter it all works right out of the box.

Syntrix, you have the Big Tow package, your truck already has the adapter, we're talking about something completely different than a 7 to 4 pin adapter. The SE and LE are wired for trailors, but they have a OEM style plug that requires an adapter to make it the standard 7 pin. Check my earlier post for a picture of it.

If you broke the round 7-pin connector that connects to the Nissan harness, you must get that from the dealer. you acn get the 7-pin to 4-pin adapter from an aftermarket source, but the round connector that comes with the hitch is a factory item only!!
