I'm trying to figure out which is the best or better company to go with to get myself some new taillights. I'm looking at the ipcw black ones: ipcw.com/images/productimages/CWT-CE1114CB-NEW_big.jpg
But they are kinda pricey. I was wondering if anyone has changed theirs out and which make/model they chose and price. I see some on ebay for about a quarter of the price of the ipcw's but i've never heard of altezza.... images.channeladvisor.com/Sell/SSProfiles/60000167/Images/5/yd-tit04-jdm.jpg
I just got the ones from ebay and I love'em. You are right there is a big price difference from ebay and other places on the net. Mine took like 5 minutes to put on, they fit right back in place and the bulbs are in the same order so its basically plug and play. I was worried that they might be cheaply made but I compared them to my oem lights and couldn't tell a difference. Check out my other posts for pics of them. If you like those, you should also check out the black housing halo projector headlights also (ebay and on the net). I ordered some and they should be here Friday.
I read a Government report that some of those "Made in China" lamps advertised on ebay and other places are not DOT approved. Just because it says so on the lamp, doesn't mean it's true.
The outer lenses are melting from the heat of the bulbs.
The Real Solution is: Use LEDs in place of the bulbs. they run alot cooler and the light pattern is pretty neat too. I just ordered these. I like them the best because the outer lense is smooth with the truck lines, no embossing for the red circles. They look clean and the sides are plain not "futuristically" curved, knurled and dotted, just smooth

All the DOT standards are elaberated is this: There must be red reflected back when light is applied to them from outside the lense. In other words, when your lights are off, and a car behind you has theirs on, their light should reflect your lights red back to them.

The solution is...don't drive at night!
I don't know how you would tell whether or not that they are DOT approved, but mine are stamped and they look and feel inside and out as the other brands of the same light I've seen. I don't imagine even if its not approved that anybody would even check and if they did once they see the stamp, that may be all they look for. I have seen people around here with the same lights (except not on a Titan) and they haven't had any problems, but I may change to LEDs just to be sure. I looked up the laws the other night just to be sure and found this:
(b) (1) Every motor vehicle shall be equipped with two (2) red tail lamps and two (2) red stoplights on the rear of such vehicle, and one (1) tail lamp and one (1) stoplight shall be on each side, except that passenger cars manufactured or assembled prior to January 1, 1939, trucks manufactured or assembled prior to January 1, 1968, and motorcycles and motor-driven cycles shall have at least one (1) red tail lamp and one (1) red stoplight. No non-emergency vehicle shall operate or install emergency flashing light systems such as strobe, wig-wag, or other flashing lights in tail light lamp, stoplight area, or factory installed emergency flasher and backup light area; provided, however, that the foregoing prohibition shall not apply to the utilization of a continuously flashing light system. For the purposes of this part, “continuously flashing light system” means a brake light system in which the brake lamp pulses rapidly for no more than five (5) seconds when the brake is applied, and then converts to a continuous light as a normal brake lamp until such time as the brake is released.
(2) The stoplight shall be so arranged as to be actuated by the application of the service or foot brake and shall be capable of being seen and distinguished from a distance of one hundred feet (100") to the rear of a motor vehicle in normal daylight, but shall not project a glaring or dazzling light.
(3) The stoplight may be incorporated with the tail lamp.
(4) Motor vehicle taillight lamps may operate as following:
(A) A white backup light operates when the motor vehicle is in reverse;
(B) When the driver is in a panic stop condition going forward, the backup lamp pulses or flashes red; and
(C) Upon normal stops of the motor vehicle, there is no action by the backup light.
(c) Each lamp and stoplight required in this section shall be in good condition and operational.
As part of the government safety laws for passenger vehicles that went into effect on January 1, 1966...back up lights became standard equipment, along with front seat lap belts (shoulder belts in '68), a left outside rear view mirror, and dual speed wipers with washers.

thanks, i know certain things vary from state to state as far as lights go because I found that at the TN DOT site and other states said the same with little variation, but isn't there something that is national to go by or something, or is it just set by each state only?
Wow... you guys did your research. Unfortunately thats not what I needed to know. I thank the guy who posted a pic but I was just looking for manufactueres and pics and prices....

What I posted about the safety equipment mandated on January 1966 was nationwide. That was the first time in years our government made the auto manufacturers add safety equipment.
The very first one mandated nationwide was safety glass...way back in the 1930's. Y'all prolly don't know it...but originally glass in cars was nothing more than single pane window glass..this in an era of no seat belts, rock hard non dished steering wheels, solid steering columns...etc.
The carnage wrought by the glass of the era was a horrid sight to behold.
