Thanks. I did everything up to the filing point and got to where only 1 side would rub. I even went as far as hitting the clamp with a mallet to get it as far in as it would go, but I guess a little filing would probably make the difference and would not hurt anything.

Cessna, AWESOME!! Thanks for the time. Who knew you could get a camera in some of those places!!

Canman, Everything in those pics looked like a very clean install. I would like to make one suggestion though. DO NOT USE T-TAPS!!! Those little red pieces that were used to splice into the door lock wires, do yourself a favor and just strip the wires, wrap your cover's wires through the middle of the exposed wires around several times, and maybe even solder.. or just tape it off. Those T-taps have caused many installers millions of problems. I'm sure there is an installer who will back me up here... That is the quick way of doing it, but it can cuase problems down the line.

You are right, they can cause problems. You can very easily cut the wires in half if you are not careful. I do avionics installations occasionally in aircraft, and these things are not to be used at all. I would have used some aviation connectors, but did not have any at the time. I will probably go back and redo this one day but it is what A.R.E sent. It will get me by for now.

Thanks for the input. I am at least moderately proficient at splicing wiring so I think I will avoid the t-taps. To be honest I have never even seen them before. I would probably kill one of my electricians if they used one so I will probably avoid them as well.

They sure make things easy, the trouble is that by design, they can cut through almost half of the original wire in the truck's wiring. Some picky ECUs or BCMs can notice the difference in resistance and throw a code or put a light on and then you are off to the dealer to get your wire harnesses's warranty voided.
Since they are very accessible and there's only two wires, you are probably going to solder right?

I prefer soldering, but with my alarm and the 35 wires I had to splice, there was no way I was going to lay upside down under the dash and drip solder in my eyes for 8 hours to get the job done... splicing sufficed there... and lots of split loom and electrical tape and some cursing too

Does anyone know why all of the pictures are no longer available on this thread? I am interested in seeing this install.

You'll love the e-lock on your cover, it's nice to know when your walking away and hit the key fob you didn't forget to lock you cover.
