Question Mounting a bike rack over a soft cover

Hi All,

I have just purchased a new Titan and discovered this forum. Your guys/gals really know your stuff. Therefore, I am seeking advice on something. Forgive me if this this already discussed somewhere else. I am a real novice at using forums.

I'm thinking of getting an Access or Truxedo roll up soft cover. I would like to mount a bike rack above this cover. My initial thought was to try and install a Yakima Track on either side of the bed cover. From this track I would then be able to install my Yakima racks and be able to slide them forward or aft as needed. Has anyone tried something like this? Any other ideas on how to do something like this? I don't want to mount the track on a hard cover because I wouldn't be able to lift it with bikes on. Also, using the higher style racks mount stuff too high.

How does it handle the elements?

MYTITAN, How does your pace edwards handle the elements? My local installer who sells these says they let in a lot water. He was directing me toward the Access cover, but these don't have the grooves to hook up the Yakima rack.

Does anyone with the Truxedo know if there is enough exposed surface on the side rails of the unit to screw anything into it? I'm thinking of attaching the Yakima Sideloader (essentially a small strip of drip edge type metail that the Yakima could attach to).

The only other option would be to screw in a strip of Yakima Tracks on top of the bed edge outboard of the Truxedo rail.

mchinna, I had the same thoughts on the Pace Edwards and the Yakima Side Loaders. Wanted to see if there were other options though.

I don't have the tonneau yet, but I think the standard Truxedo has upright (vertical) rails that just might work with the Side Loaders. The Lo Pro model has angled rails that don't seem to be a good fit for this application.

I have the Jackrabbit Pace-Edwards and it's like not even having a cover. The whole bed gets flooded with the cover pulled shut.

I'm in an on going conflict with my dealer and Pace-Edwards over this leaking cover.

Have a good one.

I have the ACCESS cover install and love it. No water from the rain though a little got in from the car wash. It came in from the tailgate. I just ordered the TrailSeal kit. That should solve that.

As for bike rack mounting. I was thinking of bed rails and mounting my Thule RailRider to those. That would get the racks high enough that the cover would clear for rolling.....though I like your idea of the Yakima Tracks too...hmmmmm......

As for the bedcaps, they are fully available for mounting whatever you need. As are the stake pockets. The ACCESS Cover frame mount completly inside the bed. No overlap on the bedcaps.
