OEM XM Radio

Have any of you guys installed your own OEM XM/Sirius Radios. If so did you have any unforeseen problems. Also how do you like/dislike it. I'm leaning to wards the XM because the antenna mounts on the back window were the Sirius mounts on the windshield.
Thanks...Harry

Re: OEM XM Radio

I had the dealer install my OEM XM radio when I bought it. They mounted the antenna on the front winshield. I was told it only got mounted from the back window when it comes factory installed. As far as likes and dislikes, it's just ok. I had the Delphi Roady in my old truck which worked just fine too. My only complaints on the OEM sat radio is the display on the radio doesn't show the whole artist or song title - test output is very limited. The other complaint is you can't save a song as a favorite and have the radio alert you when that song is playing on another station.

Re: OEM XM Radio

I installed the OEM sirius myself - I chose it over XM because I liked the talk radio line-up better. It is awkward but not difficult to install - just remember to write down the ID number on the receiver as you will need it to activate and can't see it after it is installed. I used the factory mounting position rather than the inside of the knee bolster that some use. I really like the sigma antenna. It is unobtrusive when mounted in the black area to the right of the rearview mirror and reception is excellent. It will lose the signal sometimes when there are lots of overhanging trees. I don't mind the limited display as all i want is the channel and station. The best part is the sound quality and being able to get great reception all the way on long trips.

Re: OEM XM Radio

Could you guys post pics of your antenna installs? I have contemplated adding a SAT receiver.

Re: OEM XM Radio

Thanks guys, it all helps. I too would like to see pictures of your antenna mounting, or of anything else that you think would help.

Re: OEM XM Radio

Why bother with an OEM antenna? Same price or cheaper you can get any aftermarket one (for the specific radio type xm or sirius) that's a lot smaller!
I added OEM XM afterward purchasing. Put in on the knee bolster, ran the antenna through the headliner and out the 3rd brake light to the roof. You can see it in this pick. Nice thing is its magnetic (very strong for its size) so you can transfer it to new vehicle if you want. Here's a general pic I posted yesterday, just happens you can see the antenna in it.

Re: OEM XM Radio

I think it's a Terk, but wouldn't swear to it. The XM unit itself is mounted to the knee bolster. If you take off the plastics below the dash, then take off the metal bolster, it's mounted to the inside of that metal part. It's a really easy install, total time it took me was about 30-45 minutes and that's mainly due to routing the antenna wire through the headliner and being anal about it not showing or being able to fall down.

Re: OEM XM Radio

Don't remember who I bought mine from to be honest.
EverythingNissan.com a supporting vendor here, shows $360.00. I didn't think I'd paid that much, but it's possible!

Re: OEM XM Radio

I just had Sirius installed in my 04 and they put the display on the center of the dash on that little tray. As far as the antenna they mounted mine flat on the black space between the hood and window. You don’t see it unless you’re looking for it. The biggest suggestion I can make is make sure to route it through your AUX port and not the FM transmitter. I couldn’t get clear reception in Denver or just outside of the city. Once they redid the line through the AUX port is was crystal clear. After looking at the channel lineup Sirius is a slam dunk, NFL, NASCAR with 10 in car driver channels (I don’t even like NASCAR but that sounds cool) Howard Stern, Discovery Channel, it just seems like a slam dunk to me. It’s a lifesaver when you get stuck in traffic going up I-70 to ski a couple of times a week

You do not remove the radio or the faceplate for this install. You will be working under the dash just above the gas pedal if you use the factory mounting location. My kit from yournissanparts did not come with instructions but there are some posted on the internet. PM me if you want to know what I remember from my self install.
