Question Problem with remote start

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, I am a little new at this but I need help.

Have a 2004 Titan that came with a fob with remote start already installed, I purchased this truck in Oct 2006 (used). The remote start worked fine when I purchased the truck - hit the button, the truck starts right up. Now it just wont work right, I hit the button, the truck tries to start (like your turning the key) but it just won't turn over. I am afraid I am going to hurt the truck (maybe reducing the life of the starter) if I continue to try to start it with the remote.

I would say weather has something to do with it (it is very cold) but it even does the same thing when the temp is above freezing. Other than that I have no troubles starting the truck with the key.

Oh and no, I haven't made any adjustments to my truck

Please HELP!

Re: Problem with remote start

Sounds like the programming is not operational-needs to be reprogrammed and while you are at it, consider replacing the FOB batteries.

If a key FOB is not programmed, you will get the truck to try to start but nothing more.

As for your remote mechanism, a relay may be bad...

The weather is not a factor.

Let us know how this turns out.

Re: Problem with remote start

I install these for a livinin Maine so trust me I have a little experience. Since the truck has a second starter wire that needs to be energized, and most starters don't have that relay onboard, that added on relay might have gone bad. If the trigger wire got shorted or failed it might have killed the primary starter wire in the unit. Also if the wires aren't soldered one for the starter connections might have come undone. Its very hard to make the connections because of the ignition harness location. If the chip in the key box isnt working right or ring isn't installed properly, it will crank but not fire up. Good luck.

Re: Problem with remote start

Its not that. Try sticking the key in the ignition and then try to remote start it. If that works, its the TBK box. The wire that wraps around the key cylinder must have came off or unwrapped. If the fob wasnt programmed, it wouldnt even try to crank. Let me know how this works.

Re: Problem with remote start

He said it would turn everything on but not turn over. If key in box wasn't working I believe it would still crank over. Sounds like to me transmitter is working. But hey what do I know.

Re: Problem with remote start

No it doesnt turn over, it will crank but not start. I've done 4 Titans. He said it does crank, just not "turn over" as he stated. That is the key box. I also been installing for about 14 years. Usually if the engine cranks but wont fire up, its almost always the security bypass box.

Re: Problem with remote start

He says, "the truck tries to start, but it just wont turn over." I think he means "run" by saying "turn over". If you run into a jam doing your titan, PM me and I'll try to walk you through it.

Re: Problem with remote start

Let me know how that works. When you get a chance try to put the key in, dont turn it, just put it in the key cylinder. Then try to remote start it. If it starts, then it can only be one thing. The security key box.

Re: Problem with remote start

Maybe it depends on where you are from, or some other factor but.....
From my viewpoint cranking is trying to start, and turning over is the actual running of the motor. Maybe it's a geopraphic thing.
Have you never heard the saying it will crank but not turn over?
I don't think 1Bad Titan is being a know it all, he's just trying to help like you are. You just have a different opinion on this. We'll soon know what the fix is.

Re: Problem with remote start

All I was saying is that she stated it was trying to start, to me that meant cranking.
