As for me..I'm going with a Magnaflow exhaust..a A'PEXI fuel/air computer..maybe a Brute Force Intake if AEM gets off their *** and makes one..and There you have it!
Let me understand this.....you have a truck that depending on how you use it, you might take off-road through mud, water and you want a intake that goes down low to get air! So what happens when you suck up a puddle of water?

IF..I had a true cai..which runs down closer to the ground..I would have a bypass valve on it so I wouldn't have to worry about taking in a lungfull of water..for off road I would use a short ram..or the drop in like I have now..the AEM brute Force intake is a short ram like the K&N..the voliant I wouldn't even consider..it's junk (IMHO)..I just read a article about intakes..I'll dig it up for you guys..in short the K&N beat out all the others..(airraid,aem BF,Voliant)..all gains were around 4-6hp..WOW!!! That's alot of bang for your buck!($350++)Yeah right! But if you're happy with the sucking sound they make..and some seem to think that sound means performance..they hey good for you!

A bypass valve? Obviously there is a problem if you need to design in a bypass valve. Don't get me wrong i'm not trying to bust your balls, I just think that a cold air kits ends up having too many bends which create a restriction

No it wasn't restrictive at all..the closer to the ground the intake is the cooler the air..the bypass valve is for the guys that drive through anything..I had a CAI(AEM) on my 99 Honda Civic SI..I was nervous everytime it rained hard or snowed! I've been the CAI/Short Ram route..to each his own..some think they make a big difference..some don't..all I know is the Big 3 tried cold air packages in the late 60's early 70's..and they couldn't get much more than 5 to 8 hp..so there you have it..and remember this all IMHO..take it with a grain of salt..

CAI facts and fiction

Being a previous Subaru WRX (turbo boxxer engine) owner I have a little experiance with CAI's. "The closer to the ground the colder the air." this statement should read, "The farther from the engine the colder the air." I know that here in Phoenix the air temperature isn't anywhere close to being colder then the air right next to the road. You could scramble an egg on our freeways. Another small fact with some CAI's is tubing diameter. On my subaru the OEM inlet tube was 2 1/2", I purchase an AEM CAI and the diameter was 3". What this does is it lets more airflow into the engine (dah) but also tricks the MAS and letting the extra airflow go by unaccounted for meaning that the air to fuel mixture will be leaner. This gives you some decent power (13 whp in the WRX) but also make the engine run hotter. As for the water bypass, i highly suggest this, my CAI was about 8 inches off the road inside the front quarter panel, i know that I've been real hesident to go thru some large puddles during monsoon season.

Thats my $0.02

WOW, you guys are intense! Glad I'm happy with the stock set up! Though sitting here thinking about it, I guess this is another slap in the face telling me that I have become an old man! I too used to look for EVERY single horespower I could pull, though it was from the late 60s early 70s muscle cars. Geez I hate getting old!

Hey Bixll you're not old; just a wily, well seasoned veteran. LOL Hey, I spoke to my financial advisor and she has informed me that the current corporate cash flow has been restricted somewhat by the sudden upturn in aftermarket purchasing of Titan parts. She has instructed me to comply with the budgetary guidelines or face P&L wrath. So, I won't be able to take those flares; I just wish I had held off on something else.
