Nissan Oil Filter #15208-9E000

Just in case anyone was still wondering about the construction of the Nissan oil filter for our Titans (part#15208-9E000) I cut one open this morning since I am getting close to my oil change interval. They are still made with cardboard end caps

Re: Nissan Oil Filter #15208-9E000

I should pull my old K&N out and cut that open, granted it'll be hard to tell what the full construction is due to the blackness of 10k miles.

Traded for now, will have one again eventually though! For now i'm sporting a 2012 Jetta 2.5SE

Oil Filters Revealed - MiniMopar Resources

No need to cut them open. Someones done it for us.

This forum post was very interesting. I never knew Nissans filter was a cheapo POS, although I've never used the OEM Nissan filters anyhow.

Re: Nissan Oil Filter #15208-9E000

If you change your oil every 3-4k miles OE filter is fine. If you do extended drains say 7-8k miles go with MB1, Purlator Gold, etc.

Re: Nissan Oil Filter #15208-9E000

As long as you're under warranty, use Nissan's filter. Then they can't say anything if something fails.
After 5yr/or 60,000. change to a better filter.

That was my plan since I purchased several of these at once. When I change my oil next week I will cut open the old filter to see how it held up. But if the dealer and manufacturer use them they can't be that bad, right? I assume so as long as I follow the 3,000 mile change interval.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

Do an oil report after 4000 and send it to Blackstone labs....One with OEM and one with MB1 or other. analysis $25. Used these guys for years to determine how much beating on the motor I was doing with the racing and N20. 4500miles was my change period in Summer heat and N20. Using MB1 syn and filter. Each truck is different.

Re: Nissan Oil Filter #15208-9E000

I actually did a blackstone analysis after my last change and was told that I seem to have a possible intake leak. Pretty cool service and worth the piece of mind.

With that train of thought, after your warranty is up, you've now been using an inferior filter for 50k miles and could now have shortened the engines life....and any repairs will now be on your dime. I'd stick to a filter known to be better made from day 1.
