Can you purchase a remote starter for the Titan that will not require disabling of the alarm/panic function? I had one put on my 2000 Pathfinder, and that was the only way they could install it!

I had the dealer install one on my LE that uses the same key fob and still allows for all functions including panic and window down. Works great. They installed it in about an hour while I was still doing the paper work for the truck.

I am going back to the dealer to tomorrow to get the MP3 player that was in my trade in back. I will ask then and post up to let you know.
The way it works is that you press "lock, unlock, lock". Then it starts right up. I think they charged me close to $400, which is more than I could get it done for at an aftermarket place, but the dealer says they will warantee it along with the factory warantee. This was big for me since I had a friend that had a starter installed in a Dodge and it failed after the 12 month guarantee they gave on the starter. He was seriously hurting because he came out of pocket to fix everything when the car wouldnt start even with the key.
Wow! sounds very inflated... seen the kits for DIY at retail stores for $49 - $99. Even cheaper on Ebay. Not sure if the cheap ones will work with factory Key-Fob. My $239 complete alarm system came with remote start, but I did not have the installer enable that feature. On my last car, I rarely used it, mostly for show. Here in So Cal, its not cold enough to need a 10 minute warm up. Was nice to get the AC going though, car was nice and cold when you get in.
Remember that with the imobiliser <sp?> they need to put an extra chipped key somehwere so that the truck can start. I have had starters in almost all my vehicles except my S2000. A friend of mine tried to go the cheap way with the $50 Walmart starter. Never mind starting by remote control, the car sometimes wouldnt even start. I also got one at a local audio shop, which forced me to use an aftermarket key fob which just didnt work too well. Even aftermarket setups here in the NE are usualy going for $300 when installed at a reputable place, must be high demand or something. I feel that since they have to hack into the imobiliser function having the dealer do it (and warantee it) is worth the extra $100 or so. Not to mention I wouldnt want to lose the auto down feature just to have a starter.
I just had my remote start installed, it required me to install a new alarm using another remote.
All in all it cost me almost $400 installed. The remote start was just a perk that I opted for the real reason for the alarm was for automatic locks, which I had on my IS300, I really missed that feature so a new alarm was in order.
I did it at my friends shop Dynamic Turbo of Pembroke Pines FL. The alarm has a paging system that pages me if the alarm is set off or if someone at the cars location wants to page me. It also has a ton more features but I really haven't read up on the manuel yet.
I did lose the window down feature, this was because when the installer put in the modules for both the front and back windows for both up and down capabilities. The front windows were not responding to the alarm and would go down at random, this did not happen with the rear windows. So I concluded that there must be a conflict with the factory settings on the computer and that further testing would be needed to figure out a bypass for the conflict.
Oh well I gained 2 features and lost one

2 Ford guys at my work have remote starters with alarms. The brand they use is Clifford Matrix RSX 3.5. (This unit has a two way paging system that works up to 1/4 mi away.) They have had them for over a year now and the only issue either of them has had is a hood pin switch broke on one of them. (plastic) He had it replaced with a metal one and no more issues.
I was so impressed with the Clifford system that I purchased one myself off of Ebay and will install this week. I'm going with every bell and whistle the alarm has to offer so the install will be complicated. (Dual zone motion detectors, Dual zone shock sensors, Tilt sensor, Glass Break sensor, Window roll up/down module, channel expander (adds additional channels for remote operation of vehicle accessories), Alarm battery backup, Battery backup siren, Remote start, Etc... Oh, and the factory alarm will remain enabled.
I plan on taking a bunch of pictures during the install and will post. The basic alarm / remote starter can be had for around $250. From what I've read, this is the best system on the market. Oh, and I was quoted $400 total for the alarm and installation by a local shop but I decided to do it myself to keep cost down.
