Titan Camper Shell compatibility

Hey all. New to the sight, first post. I have a '08 CrewCab Short Bed and have a question about Camper Shells. I would like to get a Camper Shell for my truck, don't want to shell out for a new one. My question: does anyone know what camper shells are compatilble from one Manufacture/Model to another. I want to search craigslist for a used one, if there is one shell that is compatible from lets say Chevy Silverado to Titan, my searching power will be broader. Thanks for your time

Re: Titan Camper Shell compatibility

Welcome aboard AZ.

I had the same questions and have been told by a topper dealer that the problem is with the rear door. The Titans have a unique tailgate in that it flares out around where the lock is. No other manufacturer has that so therefore it won't fit right on the Titan. It leaves large gaps and won't seal.

If you order a door to fit the Titan, you probably negate any savings you had buying another model topper. That's not to say the the rest of the topper would fit right either. Not sure about that.

I can say that when my buddy switched out his bedliner on his early 2000 Silverado and bedlined it, I took his bedliner and use it to further protect my bed when hauling stone or firewood. It fits great.

My eyez on the road, and my Bootzon the throttle.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Maybe I'm using wrong terminology, I'm not looking for a Shell with a dedicated door, I still want to use my tailgate. What do you call that kind of Shell? That's the kind I want. Thanks

That's what I was talking about. Maybe I should have used the term back hatch.
The problem is where the back hatch of the topper meets the top of the tailgate.

Picture a 10' ladder in the bed with the tailgate shut. Where the ladder touches the tailgate it is thicker in the middle where the lock is and the hatch of the topper has to mirror that shape of the tailgate to fit right. If you look you'll see what I'm describing. It's unique to the Titan.

It's that bezel where the lock on the tailgate is that makes the top of the tailgate thicker there.

Thanks again. This is the first time I have ventured into getting a Camper Shell. Oh well, guess I'll just have to be patient. Thanks

Re: Titan Camper Shell compatibility

You're welcome.

Doesn't mean that there isn't a way to do it. Just that up to this point nobody has figured out a cost effective way around using a topper designed for the Titan. Should you be the first, just share your solution with the rest of us.

This forum is the best accessory a Titan owner could ever have. Many really clever people here.
