Bucket Seats in the box?

Please go easy on me. I'm new to TT and have an odd question. I'm looking for suggestions:
I want to bolt 2 folding seats in the box of my truck. I'd like them to be able to fold flat so that they can go under the tonneau when not in use. But can be flipped up for tailgating, etc.

thoughts?

Re: Bucket Seats in the box?

you will have to make a pivoting base for them.
you will have to find a way to support them on the tracks.
i had actually thought about it before.

Re: Bucket Seats in the box?

In one of my older Ford pickups, we used to run an old bench seat in the bed for hunting. I'm sure it can be done, just gotta find the right seats. Not sure about the legality of having someone sit in the back of a truck any more, I would guess you would at least have to have seatbelts.

Maybe look into fishing/boat supply stores. Lots of options for swivel seats used for river boats/sleds

Re: Bucket Seats in the box?

you can use this

with this

one side of that bracket support it on the utilitracks, the other side of the bracket to the foot of the chairs.
you'll be able to fold them down to flat without moving them.
you might have to put some sort of a spacer for the other 2 feet of the chair to make it sit level-ish

Re: Bucket Seats in the box?

from the sound of it, he wants to use it for events and/or tailgate parties.
so driving wouldn't be an issue.
he also wants to fold them down to fit under his cover.

Might not be a bad idea to strap in for heavy duty tailgating parties.

Re: Bucket Seats in the box?

wow. you folks are fast to respond.
The folding chair is a good idea - would work great with card table for those poker runs.

I was thinking something like you'd see in the ole jimmies. Rear facing, seat belted, seats.

off in a mud hole I'm not too concerned about legality. Just trying to think of something different for those parties days, beach days, muddin days.

Re: Bucket Seats in the box?

I think you should be thinking more along the lines of a different kind of party in the back... the kind where a topper and air mattress make more sense.

Yeah I had an old 76 Jimmy that the top came off, thats where we got the seat to put in the back of the Ford. Pull it out of the Jimmy and pop it down and clip it on. Great set up for hunting, wife would take us up to the top of a ridge, We would jump out, hunt the draws on the way down and have her pick us up at the bottom. Always had some shotguns handy for grouse in the truck while we were driving the roads.

Re: Bucket Seats in the box?

This has really got me thinking now, as i have 2 bucket seats in the attic that would be nice to bolt in the bed and cruise offroading, or backing up to a bonfire and chilling at night

That looks sweet. Now to look into the logistics. But will keep an eye out for the folding kind.

Re: Bucket Seats in the box?

Just get this Bestop Trailmax II...

I have it in the back of my Arctic Cat Prowler. Works Awesome and tumbles and folds up out of the way. But you could just fold it flat. it would fit under the cover. Got it from Summit for $279 shipped.

Re: Bucket Seats in the box?

You could do some boat seats pretty cheap and they are durable. Or go to a junkyard and find a mid 90's single cab truck seat and put a cover on it. You could use pins to mount either seat to the bed in case you want to take them out for any reason.
