How to Remove Rear Bumper

Hey All, I plasti-dipped my truck and love the look. Unfortunately the PD isnt holding up. I dont understand why but that doesnt matter. I want to start bedlining everything that is PD'd. I want to start with my rear bumper. Anyone know how to remove it? I cant just peel off excess spray like with pd. Thanks in advance for any input. Oh, and I have an 08 CC SE.

Re: How to Remove Rear Bumper

Are you removing the bumper to bedline it? Sand it down, use some news paper and tape it off. Tons easier and quicker. I did mine 18 months ago, and it is just fine.

Re: How to Remove Rear Bumper

How meticulous were you in taping off? I plasti-dipped the bumper and did the newspaper thing. I didnt even bother taping off the plastic. I just think bedliner is much more permanent than plasti-dip so I want to be extra cautious.

Thanks Stilltime, that is what I was looking for.

Re: How to Remove Rear Bumper

Pretty soon I plan on plasti dipping all of my chrome stuff white, The thing with the bumper is the pad moves alot and will scape it down off. I saw where storm troopin put these cool *** bolts and ima try and look for something like that but on the other part is that getting the plasti dip under there so its even. If anyone has any ideas then it'd be good thanks

Re: How to Remove Rear Bumper

I was pretty meticulous, taped all the plastic off then used newspaper from there up to protect the paint, but in all reality it probably took me 20 minutes to tape and paper. All you really need is one piece of tape along the bottom edge of the plastic. Don't forget to tape off your sensors too, if you have them. I have had zero issues with the plastic piece scraping anything.

Agree. I started out doing my son's FJ Cruiser with PD (door handles and mirrors). I then did his sliders and bumper pieces with BL, all the BL parts are holding up well, the PD parts are starting to peel and rub off.
Gonna sand the door handles and mirrors down and BL them too.

With the PD stuff any over spray can easily be remove vs BL over spray.
All BL pieces I actually took off and spray.

Re: How to Remove Rear Bumper

When I plasti-dipped my bumper I did the newspaper and taped off. It looked good but one side kept peeling up. I did it twice and same result. After it was all removed I noticed overspray in places i didnt think to tape off and would be peeved if I got bedliner on the paint. luckly plasti-dip is easy to clean off but learning from my lessons I am going to remove each part I beline going forward.
