tool box

Does someone make a CHEST type tool box for the utili-track bed? I have seen the one that rides above the rails, but I would rather have the chest type that is flush with the top of the rails. Or does someone know where I can get the rollers to mount to a plain chest type box. thanks in advance for any advise.

I would be interested in that too. Good idea. I am tossing around what to do before winter with either a cap or cover and the box for the utility track system would not allow me to do a hard or soft cover.

Just a suggestion, At times in the past when i needed a small wheel or roller for a project an appropriate size bearing sometimes does the trick. Since i don't have utilitrack my self i couldn't tell you what size you might need.

I guess I will go to my local machine shop for some suggestions. Maybe they might have something that I can use as a roller for a box. Wish Nissan would have made the box on the bed side just a little deeper. I am starting to regret the having the side box.....to small to be useful

Rollers won't work on the floor track

...because they can't roll over the top of the pan-head torx fasteners that afixes the utili-track channel to the bed.

You could mount to the channel the way a cleat does, but a non-permanent installation of a tool chest to the utili-track floor channel will leave hardware (knobs or nuts) on the inside floor of the tool chest.

That would not bother me in the least. I was thinking of the cleats being utilized...anyone with utili-track?

All you really need then is to weld a bolt head to an oblong piece of metal, the width of which drops into the channel, when rotated 90 degrees the length of which engages the lips of the channel. Drill (4) holes in the bottom of the tool chest, and drop it over the threads. Use wing nuts to secure the chest.

I have heard tales of...

Nissan coming out with a model that sits flush with the rails (or below). That was last Spring and is just hear-say, but did you ask them?

I called two dealerships and they both said that the over rail model is all they can order....didnt know anything about a chest version either. I'll just end up trying to fabricate something that works decent I guess. Toms idea sounds like the route to go.

If Nissan does come out with a model that sits flush with the rails (or below), it either:

a.) won't be able to roll the length of the track

or

b.) won't be very deep if it does

...because to roll the length of the track requires clearance above the wheel wells.

Thanks a bunch Tom, those clamping nuts in the link would be just what I need. It really doesnt need to slide, I just want to utilize what I have in the bed to mount the box on instead of drilling holes in the new bed.
