Stock RF radio & aftermarket stereo?

Just currious to know what people are doing to put aftermarket radios in their trucks, since the brilliant engineers integrated the radio into the entire center console!

I have 2 amps driving 2-8"s (among others) in my current car and don't know if the stock Rockford Fosgate head unit in the Titan has any preamp outputs. I'm hoping the engineers figured that someone might want to add an aftermarket stereo system to it, but not pull the stock radio out and ruin the dash.

Try "SEARCH" feature on aftermarket deck. You will find plenty of links and tips on installing aftermarket decks. Like replacing the huge plate that holds your current stereo in place w/ a double-din plate from Nissan. No custom fabrication needed that way...

There are a ton of posts on this topic if you search. Here are a few facts:

1. The stock RF radio does not have RCA outs. Many people, including me, have used an LOC to connect the stock head unit to amplifier(s). The stock RF radio produces very low level signals on the speaker outputs. I used a Matrix preamp from AudioControl to boost the signal from the LOC to my amps. www.altomobile.com is about to ship a UI-4 LOC/line driver that should enable even better signal levels. smoketitan previously posted information regarding the foregoing. All of the above assumes you are ditching the stock RF amp & 2 ohm speakers.

2. Regarding "integrated the radio into the entire center console":

The central plastic dash panel with the radio & heater controls is held by clips and pulls off. The radio/CD changer head unit is mounted behind the central dash panel to a bracket and held in place by four screws. Many people have removed the stock head unit and replaced with an aftermarket head unit using a double-din face plate.

3. The steering wheel controls can be connected for operation with an aftermarket head unit using an adapter. I think it is called "PAC" or something like that. You can find info by searching.

4. I do not recall seeing any posts regarding integrating the rear audio controls with an aftermarket head unit, so I don't know if or how that can be achieved.
