Gas cap

I have a 2005 XE the gas cap was so tight it could NOT be removed without a wrench. The dealer replaced and it worked fine. I have 3200 miles on the truck, it had it's first wellness check today and I couldn't get the gas cap off with out a water pump. I forgot to tell the dealer. Has anyone else had this problem. I do notice a very f aint vibration in the steering, at some speeds, but it is inconsistant.

vibration might be signs of the infamous brake judder problem if ur applying the brakes. never heard the gas cap problem. Maybe u got a kid or a titan-hater near by that is putting super glue on it :-D

Wink Interesting...

I have an '04 and my gas cap takes an act of congress to remove. I dont need a wrench, but I am used to a normal twist. This thing I have to grip it and rip it to the left. Maybe its just something people dont talk about. ... So far as steering goes... I don't usually get a vibration but I do at times feel like the steering wheel gets an urge to move one direction or the other with no provocation, and the Titan likes to move in one direction or the other. Straight never seems its happiest. Perhaps its an alignment issue.

I've got a stubborn gas cap on my '04 LE CC. I can get it off without a wrench, but I have to talk dirty to it.

This is a fairly common problem, not with all Titans, but quite a few. Mine was tough to get off every time at the pump. I installed a locking cap and problem solved.

Hey RockyMtnTitan, nice avatar. I spent the weekend trying to learn ZZ tops 'Asleep in the desert'

Anyway I bought the STANT locking gas cap from a nissan parts web site and the last time I filled up, the tumbler/lock came out of the cap when I pulled out the key. I managed to get it put back together but wont be suprised to see it happen again.

while driving? get the wheels balanced, that should cure that...

during braking? you've got the infamous brake judder... take in and have temporary fix done till the permanent fix arrives (due in April, fingers crossed)

My '04 SE KC 4x4 has the same problem with the gas cap. Although, the other morning when I pulled in for gas the cap came right off (normally a two hand procedure.)
Not sure if it was my "breakfast of champions" that morning, (cream filled donuts,) or maybe the cap is just getting broken in. Approx 4k on my truck. Needless to say, I don't let the wife take the truck if it needs gas. Don't want her to show me up and tell me she doesn't understand why the gas cap is giving me trouble because she is able to remove the gas cap with only 2 fingers.

I bought the Fram RG-508 cap for mine.....I believe it is designed for the Xterra, but fits Titan as well. No problems with it, so far.

Which album is 'Asleep in the desert' on? I'm not familiar with it, but love ZZ Top. I play mostly acoustic fingerstyle blues stuff now, but still love to 'rock it' too! My guitars (too many!) are the only thing I love more than my truck.

Its a wonderful acoustic instrumental on the album Tejas. The tabulature is not published anywhere that I can find, so maybe someday I will post the tab ( If I ever get it all figured out)

Anyone know of a locking gas cap with a combination instead of the key? I had one on my Dodge but can't find one for the Titan yet.

gas cap

I have had same problem with gas cap being too tough to remove easily. It started with 7000 miles on truck. Happens more in winter. Will dealer upgrade to a better one? Joe

How much does that cap go for? Certainly it can't be that much.

I don't remember for sure, but I don't think it was more than maybe $12?? I do remember it being cheaper than the Stant one that Courtesy sells, but not by much.
