Performance Air Filter/intake

ok, i got an 04 king cab and i took it to the dealer today for some misc, old change etc. my air filter is shot already at 15k miles. no biggie but instead of paying the dealer $30 to put on in there every 15k....i know some of you have those aftermarket cold air, or performace set ups. i think i have read good things about brute force. i dont want to spend a lot of money but anything to help gas mileage would help in the long run. what do you guys recommend and where should i get it from. just a standard k&n filter, or the nicer set ups.

If you want to stay on the cheap side and your not looking for performance gains you can get a drop in like the K&N or Fram air hog. They will cost you around $40 and save you money in the long run. You just need to be careful when you do clean it I have heard of some that damaged their MAF due to over oiling.

Consider going over to the Performance Modifications section of this site and do a search. There is a ton of info there about just about every kind of intake modification you could ever imagine and many different points of view. There is also a "sticky" at the beginning of that section with info on drag strip times and dyno runs and a summary chart with all the different mods.

For me, the K&N drop in with the modification of removing most of the internal snorkel in the factory airbox is getting the job done just fine, but there are many, many differing points of view on this. "Choose whichever pleases you."

I've got a Volant CAI and really like it. I'm also adding a Gibson exhaust to really help open it up.

The Air Hog is cool because when you oil it the filter changes color so there is no guessing if its covered or not. The Cleaner kit is an extra $10. I really like mine. I now clean the filter every time I change the oil.

Another issue to consider. When you go WOT or near with a cold air intake it's quite a bit louder since the stock intake resonator is removed. A drop in filter will last you a bit longer than the paper filters. Air Hog seems to be the best price on a drop in right now.

Here's a good deal on the K&N cold air intake. It's one of our TT sponsors too.
