Easy Lift tailgate assist

Saw this tailgate assist / torsion bar at:

http://trucktoys4less.com/tailgate-easylift-assist.html

It is literally a tosion bar that goes from the bottom of the tailgate to the back of the bed.
Looks interting, but I am always weary about drilling holes (have to drill 2 to install the bar) - see instructions on website.

Anyhow - thought it looked interesting enough to pass along.

This isn't a bad option but it may be hard to remove the tailgate. Some one did a detailed review a while back.

I installed one and am not impressed. It only helps when the gate is almost all the way down (I can drop/lift with one hand easier than before but it's not even close to the ones on the 2005 Titans where it feels light all the way) and makes a springy sound when you close the gate. I also notice a bulge on the gate caused by the pressure of the bar. But for $18, I didn't expect much.

well for an alternative to the(cant be retrofitted 05 assist) the product seems to perform very well. before the tailgate had to be lifted with both hands. now i can lift it with 2 fingers. thats a big difference!

I've had mine installed for some time. After opening and closing
the gate hundreds of times, there are no springy sounds, rust,
or any movements in the torsion rod. The bulge that happens during
install comes from the thickness of the Titan's metal being greater
than the angle of the bend on the rod. The bulge causes no harm
or weakness. The Easy Lift is the best convenience mod I have.

Yeah - anybody have a picture of the "bulge"? Is it on the inside, outside, or bottom of the tailgate? (I don't care about inside or bottom, nor do I care about drilling a hole or two - not it it works!)

I dont even get why anyone would want this "mod" at all...i must be missing something. I have absolutely zero trouble closing/opening my tail gate. I would have never even thought to do something like this....someone care to fill in the blanks for me? lol

Looks like some people only have 2 fingers. kidding!

You can use the bulge to fill in the blanks.

$18 buys a lot of sausage

Sorry for the late response. The instant email notification stops working for me again. We noticed the bulge immediately (mine has the Line-X too so it doesn't look too bad) after the installation and a few tries and it's on the inside side of the gate where the rod presses against . Like someone mentioned above, there is no other choices to reduce the weight. I did this mod after watching it nearly fell on my daughter (she was fast enough to get a way) when she coudn't wait for me to get her bike from the bed. In this case, I don't think it helps much because I tested letting the gate drop freely and it did it freely with almost no or little resistance. But at least I can lift with one hand when my other hand is holding something else.

In my case i open and close my tailgate 20-30 times a day to get to my tool box. I wish the 05 helper spring was backward compatable.

Thanks for th info on this. I ordered one for my fathers Ford. He's getting up in age and this will do wonders for his shoulders (3 operations and counting). Looks really simple, why didn't I think of this?
