LED Taillights

I just received my LED taillights this afternoon that I bought on ebay. They look good but I think I should have gone bigger. I hate being the guy in the truck with his headlights glaring right into the back of someone's head at a stoplight or with super-bright taillights lighting up the interior of the car behind me... but my new "bulbs" have twelve LEDs each and they aren't as birght as the stock taillights. I think if anyone else wants to replace their taillights and front blinkers with LEDs they should go bigger than 12 LEDs.
BTW, I bought all four on ebay for about eighteen dollars including shipping. Also, don't buy the white ones even though our trucks have red lenses!! The "white" ones are just orange LEDs with purple lenses. there is no such thing as a white LED. the amber LED with a purple cover, as you can imagine, puts out about half the light of a regular red, blue, green, or amber LED. Just order the Red LEDs and put them behind the red lenses, but as I said before, if you want the LEDs to be as bright as the stock taillights/blinkers get a step up from the "12 LED bulbs."

Aren't the Infiniti QX56 taillights LED? Are they the same dimensions as the Titans? They look like it, but I've never seen one up close.
I think that would be the swap I would try.

He didn't do the swap, he just installed these in place of the incandescent bulb:

I followed that, but since they weren't bright enough I wondered if the QX lights would have been a better option. I know they must be expensive though.

Ah, I see.
I asked that question before and the answer I got was no. I looked closely at the QX lights and the won't just plug and play. Maybe with some custom fab they'll work though.

They're $185 each side for the whole assembly. A little rich for a TAIL LIGHT...

The QX doesn't have the backup light integrated into it. They are on the liftgate by the license plate. You'd have to do something to replace them.

Now that you mentioned it, I went and looked at pictures and they appear to be completely different. Aside from the external backup lights, the QX lights appear to be more rectangular. The Titans are tall and pointy at the top and wrap around the side more, tapering down to the backup light. The QX lights don't have that taper. Since the QX has the similar rear fender bulge and I never compared them side by side, I assumed they were much more alike.

the 12-LED bulbs that I bought have all of the LEDs mounted facing the rear of the truck. A better solution would be these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW
these would shine to the sides and reflect from the reflective surfaces inside the taillight for a broader and brighter pattern.
I'll replace mine as soon as my wife forgets about the $35.00 I just spent on this set.

The problem with leds is their directional nature and their close cluster set up versus traditional incandescants. You could try these

http://www.spiderlite.com/

or these for something more conventional as they fire light against the reflector to maximaze light dispersion. plus there are a whopping 24 leds.

Re: LED Taillights

Could you post a pic on how the 12 LED bayonet replacement bulb looks when mounted in the taillight with lights on? Curious.

Re: LED Taillights

I got my tail light LED's from this place.

http://spectrumled.com/3157_3156.htm

I got the Tower II's. 5 front and 15 side LED's. I am pleasantly surprised with them to say the least.

Not sure if I'm going to get the turn signals though. You have to get a load resistor or something like that so your lights dont start blinking fast (because of the low voltage).

See this thread as well...
