Question Tonneau Cover vs Tool Box

I am having a hard time deciding if I want a tonneau cover or a tool box to store a few items. Have any of you gone through the same thought process? If so, what did you end up with and why?

Thanks

Went with the tonneau. I don't haul/use tools on a regular basis and figured the cover was more flexible. The tool box takes up too much bed space. Personally I needed the ability to make a weatherproof "trunk" when needed too. Good luck either way!

I chose a tool box. A soft cover can be ripped open with a pair if scissors and a hard cover prevents you from hauling tall stuff like furniture and refrigerators. I also transport my dog in the bed so that takes any type of hard cover out of the picture.

The benefits of being able to secure long stuff under a hard top can be appreciated however.

ahh yes but getting a hard retractable cover will allow you the niceties of a covered bed, while instantly allowing you to haul large items without removal.

Peragon, K-cover, Fold-A-Cover, Jack Rabbit are choices to consider...

I say go with the tonneau.

It depends on how much stuff you need to store...I chose a Retrax retractable cover b/c I had a toolbox on my last truck and could not fit all of my tools. I went with Retrax b/c it is watertight and lockable, kinda of like a BIG trunk, but when fully open I only lose about a foot. With the toolbox you will lose more room. It is all personal preference!
Good luck on your choice...

Use a toolbox that does not exceed the vertical capacity of the bed, and enjoy both!

As mentioned above there are covers that will coexist with a toolbox

http://www.accesscover.com/Products/Toolbox.asp

I ordered a Access cover, on the same site they sell a toolbox that set below the sides of the bed and would function with a standard tonneau.

http://www.realtruck.com/products/cargobox.php

I ended up with the "literider" edition of the cover, I got what I thought was a pretty good price on it at the same site.

They have some inventive bed storage. I like the side storage boxes.
