Bug Shields that don't use tape?!?!

Are there any bug shields that don't use tape?

I was considering the OEM bug shield and Lund, but heard that they both use tape to secure it.

This is just a personal preference. I'm sure the tape would hold up fine, but just not what I'm looking for (sort of like the debate between nerf bars vs. running board).

Thanks for your input!!

George

I was going to buy an OEM bug shield but found out that it uses tape as part of it's installation process. I understand Lund is the same way.

Are there any that don't use tape?

I'm sure that the tape works fine, but it's just a personal preference.

Thanks,

hood protector

George,
Yea, I've been looking and looking for a bugshield that doesn't use tape....nothing still. I'm a Parts Manager at a Nissan dealer and I use a lot of accessory warehouses and have checked all brands imaginable........still I think I'm leaning towards the OE bugdeflector...even with the tape and brackets it appears to be the lesser of the evils compared to what I've seen from other companies. All I know is that without it my hood is getting really chipped up from rocks and such and the bugs are rediculous!
Good luck!

I agree. The tape pieces for the OEM shield are just for protecting the paint, not for holding it on in any way. I've had mine on for over a year with no problems.

I have a Stainless Lund Interceptor and it says to use tape near 2 of the screws, I didn't and it works just fine. I guess they just wanted extra adhesion.

I have the Lund and it uses two small pieces of tape in addition to four screw and two edge "clamps". The tape is more of a installation aid than a permenant mounting measure.

I thought the idea of using tape was kind of cheap when I first got my OEM, but I like the fact the tape is unseen and it's there to protect the paint. It's kinda grown on me....well, as much as a bug shield can grow on a guy.

I have the OEM and don't recall any tape to secure the shield. The only tape was clear tape to protect the finish where the rubber spacers hit the hood. It has been a while since I installed it, but I believe that was the only tape involved.

Dude, there is tape that you put on the hood that the brackets are supposed to slide over....this is supposed to keep the paint from scraping off when installing them. I used those, but didn't even fool with the tape for the rubber bumpers.

Boy, the way people reacted when I wrote in that I took my bug shield back because I found out it mounted with tape made me feel petty. Makes me feel good to see that there are others out there that aren't hip on the idea of sticking tape onto their paint either. Following are a couple threads also to give you ideas on different brands that do not use tape...
bug shield
How do you like your bug deflectors?

I just installed the lund stainless about an hour ago, The instructions called for tape but mine didn't come with any so I didn't use it.

The lund is secured using 4 screws in the existing holes under the hood, then two E clamps that hold the two corners down.

The tape is to secure it while putting in the screws. Without screws, it will come off (been there - done that).

Can you still use the car wash with a bug shield on or will the dryer air flow snap it off?

Most offer option of tape & screws. I agree with above that tape merely holds in place while putting in screws. I have a Bugflector II that I was not going to install until I was amazed by the amount of little chips etc I was getting in the hood. I used tape and screws although holes didnt quite line up. Just drilled where I wanted screws to go.
