Memory vs non-momory BT mirrors

My wife had a little oops last week with the Titan. She managed to get too close to some bushes on the side of the road and literally tore off the passager side towing mirror. It was hanging by the wiring harness. This managed to dislodge the limiter devices that prevent the mirror from sliding freely. We rocovered both of the rods and three of the the ball-like holders but still have a problem. We stuck the mirror back on the sliding shafts to run it down to the dealer to have them deal with it and low and behold neither they nor we can get the thing off again. Now I am stuck with a mirror that slides out to the fully extended position the minute I hit 30mph.

That being the case I have two questions. Does anyone know how to safely remove the mirror itself from the shafts so I could attempt to get these rods back in? Second if that isn't possible is the wiring harness plug on the towing mirrors the same regardless of whether the mirrors have the memory option or not? I have a line on a set of memory mirrors but my SE isn't equipped with the memory option.

Any help with this would be appreciated.
