Can't go wrong with a Viper, I would suggest however to find a reputable place to put it in for you.

I've had Vipers in 3 cars - they're a great alarm.

do i need to specify to the installer that i want the factory security system to stay intact or can i do that or no?

id like to be able to take it to the dealer when i have maintenance and give them the fob that came with it instead of the new viper fob. any ideas.

i realize if i had put this in the main forum id have more hits, i forgot where i was when i posted

You would be better off having the Viper system take over complete control. Otherwise, you would need two key fobs for operation. The Viper, as most system can, be programmed to work with the factory system and assume the remote control function.

You wouldn't be eliminating the factory system, only adding to it.

i want to use the viper system only and put the factory fob up but would like to be able to give it to the dealer and disconnect the viper system when i take it in so they dont know its in there.

that was my main concern.

If installed properly that's exactly how it will work. You should only have to use the Viper remote but the OEM remote will still be functional. I just put my Viper alarm in valet mode when getting serviced.
