Trying to replace factory standard, flimsy skid plate w/no oil filter access panel. Purchased the heavy duty Nissan skid plate, part #999T4-7S210, that comes as part of the factory "off-road package". Apparently it is not a even replacement as it requires additional bracket(s). Have spoken with a few local parts people but no one seems to be able to give definitive answer?
Anyone else solve the mystery? I have a 2005 LE 4x4.
Thanks for all the time and effort people have given of themselves to make this a very informative forum.

Not that this helps, but I am doing the same thing. I believe you are correct that there are suppose to be a couple of brackets - I remember seeing them in a drawing somewhere.
I'll dig around and post if I find anything. Let me know how you make out.
Please update this thread when you guys have found the info. I was wanting to do this. I am now glad I didn't just buy the part as I usually do and get stuck trying to make it work.
Will do. Opened a case with Nissan Consumer affairs (800) 647-7265 spelling out details. Expect an email/phone response within the next few days. I'll let you know what I find.
Interesting I was just telling someone how easy the oil changes are on my titan and the guy said he worked at Jiffy Lube and he thought it was a pain cause you have to remove the skidplates.
I wish I could remember who I was telling this now cause I told him NO you don't you just have to remove the access panel in the plate!
Didn't realize the other skidplates were different.

It looks like the tow hooks also mount up to the bracket - so is it possible then that if you have tow hooks, you already have the brackets? I'm away on business and my truck is at home - just wondering if anyone has their truck nearby and can check.
I actually thought all of the trucks had tow hooks. I guess I was mistaken on that. Hopefully, I'm ok with the brackets - hate to spend $100 on brackets.
Arent tow hooks part of the offroad package? I have a offroad package and am getting ready to put on a bull bar tonight. But I think that you must have the brackets if you have tow hooks on the front. I think they actually have the tow hooks as a option.

** PROJECT COMPLETE -- an update **
If you have existing factory tow hooks you will need:
(1) 999T4-7S210 skid plate - list ~$230.58, paid $178.52 in person at Courtesy Nissan (Dallas)
(2) 999T4-7S205 bracket - list ~$77.55, paid $56.40 (each).
(4) 01431-0004U screws - list ~$11.36 (each)
Steps:
1) Remove existing skid plate keeping (2) rear bolts. Need 10mm socket.
2) Remove existing tow hooks. Mine required some muscle to loosen. Need 17mm socket and wrench.
3) Re-install tow hooks along with brackets using existing bolts. Order is -> bolt -> bracket -> tow hook -> frame. Brackets are not directional but tow hooks are.
4) Install new skid plate using existing rear bolts. Screws will go in front. Need 8mm allen wrench.
Your done. Skid plate clears front just fine, even with aftermarket grill. Much better than flimsy skid plate AND provides oil filter access panel. Pictures attached.
I talked with Courtesy Nissan, they stated no brackets are needed. Not sure why they said this. They actually have the off road skid plate for about 180.00. plus shipping which is 70.00.
