optima yellow top battery

not related to the titan directly, but I have a yellow top in my other vehicle and it is dead

I bought it from autozone less than 2 years ago and it has a 2 year warranty.

I take it back to the store where I bought it and they tell me that its under warranty...Cool

But the warranty is pro rated ...I will get a 10 dollar credit....wtf

that isnt a warranty

so all you optima battery lovers out there....beware, the warranty sucks

I have had a yellow top before and I wasn't impressed. I think that there are better batteries out there......I am going to look into it and post what I find. I am going to need one next spring.

I'd stick with the red top if it's your cranking battery. I believe the yellow top, since it's a deep cycle, is better suited as an auxiliary battery or multiple battery setup. I've had redtops in my last two trucks and also put one in my father's truck, no problems so far (6+years).

Yep, Optima prorated warranties were discussed in the "Preemptively replacing battery" thread. Almost all batteries come with a prorated warranty which usually isn't worth much after a year.

I don't know which part of the country you are from, but if you live in the deep south or west, the heat eats batteries and is the reason why battery warranties are not worth much and why I preemptively get a new battery after 2 or 3 years.

I had a Red-Top which also died within 2 years from normal usage. I feel the Optima battery line is wayyyyy overrated, I know there are much better batteries out there. It used to be that they were the only one to offer that great 3/7 year warranty but now even Die-Hard has that.

Not sure what you folks have down there in the sbig U.S. of A but up here in the great north you can not beat Canadian Tire for its stuff. Great warranty on tires, batteries and the tools are for life and alway's 50% off MSRP.

I'm using a Stinger dry cell 1000. works good so far with no problems. The real company is called Hawker and they make the Odyssey battery. It's real small. I was going to try the 1700 model but I was afraid it would be too big. it's close and I just didn't want to try it.

I bought a battery for my old Accord from Costco and it had a 3 or 5 yr full replacement warranty on it. It was cheap too coming in @ $39.99 and no core charge (although they did take the old battery back in their tire center)

I have a pair of blue tops in my Bronco for the past 2 years. They seem to be working great. I had a yellow top and a red top before that. The red top was great, and I'll be adding one to the Titan eventually. The yellow top failed prematurely.

i have a 60$ DEKA, that is 5 yrs old and still going strong.

Batteries are like woman, alot of bad ones and a few good ones, if you luck in and get a good one youll have plenty of happy years together.

Isn't there a bigger battery in the tow package? Probably nothing spectacular, but bigger than the stock right?

Now I haven't don'e the research on car batteries, but I did do the research on ATV/Motorcycle batteries.

Turns out, when you fill a lead/acid battery with acid, it brings it up to about an 80% charge after just sitting for about 30 minutes. Now, the remaining 20% required to give it a full charge needs to be done with a trickle charger. Most people just throw them in a vehicle and think the vehicle's charging system will top it off. The problem with that is the vehicle charges it up to fast. And in turn that top 20% is sucked from the battery during normal use much faster than it would be with the proper initial charge method.

After reading this, I tried it with my latest Quad battery. You know what.... yes, it did take an additional 6 hours to bring it to full charge, but it was worth the time. I did this on the 4th battery but is the strongest by far.

Just some food for thought. As for the gel type batteries... I wouldn't guesstimate on the charging proceedure.

And to answer the previous question, the towing package does include a heavier duty battery. '06 Non BT's come with a 650CCA while the BT comes with a 710CCA battery.
