E&G Grille Installation Questions

Hey everyone... two things I'm unclear about even after reading the instructions:
  • Why do I need to swap the factory clips from the radiator support and reinstall them to the upper grille? (And Vice Versa)
  • The black silicone sleeves are only open on one end, yet the instructions show that they had slid it on to the base of the screw. Am I supposed to cut open the closed end?
Thanks...

you dont need to switch the clips you just have to take them out and put them back on the grille before you re-install it.

second the black sleeves have to be trimmed, i used a razor blade on mine.

If the clips are on the support instead of on the grill, it is impossible to get everything lined up and reingage the clips with the grill (recall that you had to rotate them to get them off). So you need to have all the clips on the grill before you attempt to reinstall the grill. Done this way, all you have to do is line up the clips on the grill with the holes in the support and push to click them back into place.

Thanks for the quick responses. My issue is that the twist clips located at the bottom of the upper grille cannot be accessed unless I put my hand through the opening where the lower grille goes. If I cover it, then I won't be able to twist those, ultimately leaving me in a position where I couldn't get the upper or the lower grille off. So the way I have it now, I have the twist clips on the top 4 spaces of the upper grille, none on the sides of it, and the bottom 3 are the click ones. (Taken from the sides)

The bottom grille is also giving me a bit of a pain, since the rubber molding comes off when I install it... not to mention I'm unsure just how much I should tighten it down.

I don't recall having to twist the clips when I put it back on. I think I put all the clips in place on the upper grill before the reinstall. Then they just pop into the holes on the support, no twisting required. To remove a couple of them, I used a very long screwdriver going through the honeycomb of the grill.

For the bottom grill, it helps tons if you have somebody hold the grill in perfect alignment while you tighten from behind.

if you put the bottom grille on your gonna need a long flat head screw driver to get the top grille off, the space between the stock grille and the bumper gives you plenty of room to not only see the clips but to be able to replace them. i left the pull clips on the sides and just re-installed the twist clips back on the original when i put it back on. and i snugged up the nuts on the bottom grille evenly untill i was not able to jiggle the grille. as for the surround, make sure you start it in the middle, i left the seperated parts down the bottom so it would be hidden if i put my front plate back on. ive had no problems with mine comming off, also if you look at the silcone surround its rounded on one side, i put that side twords the engine dept.

my bug deflector is a lund interceptor, i have no front clips since its molded to just bolt up. it only uses side clips to keep it stable.

Re: E&G Grille Installation Questions

take the upper and lower both off. and install the lower 1st. and as you said, you'll have to cut the zip ties if you want to uninstall them later. easier to twist the bottom of the upper grill inserts with a needle nose imo so that's how I did it. I installed/uninstalled my billet grill inserts a few times.. thinking about getting them powder coated but still up in the air on it...
