Thanks for the reply. That makes a lot of sense. The reason I was wondering is because I have a cable that I think will work with the OBDII computer on our Titan. I was thinking maybe I could use a computer like others are doing for DVD and MP3's and add this feature to it. What do you think?

How would the computer "decode" the info?

Thumper, you are probably asking the wrong person-not that computer adept. The ECU is certainly sending that info to the plug just under and to the right of the steering column, but how would you get this info into your computer, and how would your computer decode it?
You say you have a cable that will send info from the ECU to the computer;but wouldn't you need some add on program so your computer could decode and display it?I'm sure such programs are available(they also allow you to get 02 concentrations to do tuning mods).I think these kits usually would come with a cable to plug into the connector under the dash and route it to your comp.
The only downside is that I suspect they would cost as much as the $129 scangauge. On the plus side-the display screen would be a lot better(this on is small for my 54 yo eyes) and it would save the info "forever".Probably worth it if you plan to play with the vehicle to max performance-mpg etc(or just for fun).Luck,Charlie

There are free programs out there like Diagnose 22 and scan tool that I have downloaded. They do the basic stuff like getting rid of the SES light but they dont do much in the way of tuning stuff. It does give you the throttle position and fuel pressure. Not sure if it shows how much fuel the engine is using though. I am still looking around for a nicer interface to possibly display on a carputer.

Intake Air Temp???

Question for anyone with this ScanGauge.
1. What is the Intake Air Temp (IAT) in relation to:
............a. Outside (rearview mirror thermometer) temperature
............b. Type of intake you have. Whether it is OE or aftermarket. If it is aftermarket, what brand?
............c. When moving..approxiamate speed and reading of IAT
............d. When at idle, what is your IAT?

2. What is your Ignition Timing when the IAT changes to lower temperature?
............a. at idle?
............b. At the same speed above when in motion?
Thanks in advance.
Reason I am asking this is that I am not able to test my Titan with the stock air box. I presently have a Volant-"ram air" Hybrid and my intake temp when in motion is never higher that 5 -10 F of the outside ambient temp. I get tremendous seat of the pants power but of course unable to duplicate in a dyno setting because of absence of "ram air".

This comparative data would help me plan my next performance Mod. Thanks again.

I'll check temp-remind me.

I check the temp-remind me if I don't post tomorrow.I don't have a outside temp gauge on the truck,so I'll use an outside thermometer.Charlie

Around 13-14 degree's higher than ambient with stock airbox.
40mph, light throttle, ambient temperature 60 degrees, the Scangauge was staying around 73.

(Gr8Titan brought his ScanGauge over and we took a ride w/my stock intake. Figured this might be helpful to anyone else that is curious).

Within the same hour, the same driver (TOK), same ambient temp, the ScanGauge was reading 63 degrees in my modified "Volant-ram air box". We went through the same road and same throttle. Recalled the average MPH info from ScanGauge and it was 35 mph including my trip back home.
What was interesting comparison was the slow drop of Intake Air Temp (IAT) from the 90s down to 73 in the stock box V.S. the rapid IAT drop (within the same block) from the 90s to 63 in the modified Volant box. After the air temp dropped, the two (OE vs mod-Volant) maintained their temps at 73 and 63 degrees respectively.

Would like to know someone test it in an unmodified "aftermarket intake"
Thanks.
