SCANGAUGE-fun gadget .5 gallons per hr idle

I got my Scangauge in yesterday;it is a fun gadget.I haven't had a lot of time to fool with it,but so far I have found out that the Titan uses .5-.6 gallons per hr at idle with the AC on 1.This is after warmup-it is .7-.8 till warm.
I ran it at 50 mph with the AC on 1 and CC on-the readings were 22-28-in general about 24 mpg.At 60 mph the readings were 19-23 mpg.
I'll get some readings at 70 mph a bit later.Luck,Charlie
It has lots of other "functions".It will give percent of max power at current RPMS,water temp-intake air temp-RPMS-ignition timing-battery voltage-mpg etc.It will be easy to drive off the road fooling with this gadget.

I have been looking around for one of these that will show the Trans. temp. - anyone know of one? Also looked at this one that is in the shape of a gauge but they don't have it for Nissan yet: www.aeroforcetech.com

Yukon has it

Yukon has it-that is the site.It is a kick to play with $129 delivered.I'll hhave to check to see if the Titan produces a manifold pressure number,if it does the Scangauge will display it.Charlie

Can this box be disassembled to integrate it into an overhead compartment. Perhaps molding out the buttons and such to sit flush with a overhead panel?

5x 2.5x 2"

The box is 5 long,2.5 tall and 2" deep.I currently have it"installed" in the foldout cup holder because I'm moving it between vehicles.I doubt you can actually read the screen, but I cranked up the Titan to get this picture. It is reading something like 1200 RPMS 26% OF MAX LOAD and 1.3 gallons per hr.It is much cooler today,so it is reallly pouring the gas in to warm up.Yesterday at idle it finally settled down to .5-.6 GPH at about 670 rpms at idle.Hope the pictures come out.
The Titan doesn't give a map-manifold pressure reading. It does give ignition advance(about 8-9 at idle which bounces up to about 26 with a bit of a tap on the gas).Volts-14.2, lod at idle about 25% of max at current RPM.WATER TEMP,INTAKE AIR TAMP ETC.
PS-It gives all the "codes" also-so it is a code reader-also "trip type stuff" ave mpg,how much gas left-how much distance on current tank -average speed for trip etc.
PPS You can adj the reading for bigger tires-regearing etc.

I agree. It needs a few days at Nissan's design center in La Jolla. A+ for function, D for looks. Maybe the face detaches and could be painted.

Don't like my custom install

Hey,you don't like my custom installation-masking tape?It actually isn't very big,and could be sunk in any number of places. It isn't as aesthetically displeasing as it might appear-it is sorta neutral in looks.Charlie

How does this device determine the MPG? I dont think that the ECM produces that value. Does it just take a few measurements and then figures it out from there? The values you are giving us sound like they are accurate but I just dont think that our computers are producing that.

What factors would this device use to get the MPG? Throttle Position? Load? timing advance?

Fuel flow and speed give mpg-60mph/3gallons hr=20mpg

Thumper modern engine management systems measure all sorts of stuff. My guess(has to be this way) is that there is a fuel flow meter that gives gallons per hour pumped-used and if you have rate of fuel use and your speed-speedometer,you get mpg-for example using 3 gallons per hour at 60 mph means 60/3=20 miles/gallon.The device does read out gallons per hour,so this is how it works .Since it is constantly adjusting how much gas is being sprayed into the intakes,it must have a fairly exact idea of fuel flow.
I mentioned earlier that at idle after warming up it uses about.5-.6 gallons per hr with the AC on 1.
The NAV systems on the fancier Titans do it the same way-just costs a lot more. This gadget is also a code reader.Usually code readers are $60-$100 alone.Thanks.Charlie
