Installed Nismo Intake

I installed my nismo intake today. I've had just a banks exhaust on for about a year with just a DIY airbox mod and let me just say there is a huge difference between a CAI and that mod. You really do need both an exhaust and an intake to get good results. I'm very pleased with the sound and performance. The install was very easy other then getting the heat shield bolted to the fender well. But other then that a great intake in my opinion and a must if all you're running is an exhaust. Next up, 2 deg timing advance!!

Re: Installed Nismo Intake

Quick question. Do the filters come pre-oiled? And do you just use the K&N cleaning kit for them?

From what I hear, a lot of people are going with the dry filter....ask around about the benefits of dry versus oiled!

Re: Installed Nismo Intake

AEM/Fram Boost come with dry filter, K&N, NISMO, Volant and a few more come with a pre-oiled filter when purchased new. These will need to be re-oil after cleaning. Usually it's not a problem but if you over oiled it that can cause problems such as MAF fouling.

Why is it that if the oiled filters can cause a problem with the MAF sensor doesn't Nissan use a dry filter.Nissan dealerships will install these cai so they will have to warrenty them but at the same time I have a Airaid intake and my dealer says if I have a problem with my MAF sensor they will not fix it under warrent.

If you over oil the filter the extra oil can get sucked into the intake tube and gum up the MAF. I have a Volant and am careful about re-oiling. I also use CRC MAF Sensor cleaner every time I re-oil the filter just to be sure.

If your filter oil casues MAF damage, it doesn't matter who installed it, it's not warranty...

Re: Installed Nismo Intake

What problems would you see if you had a problem getting oil on your MAF sensor?

that is an urban myth. i have poored k & N oil on a mass air sensor and had no problem. http://www.knfilters.com/MAF/massair.htm and also http://www.knfilters.com/warrantyletter.htm the only negetive on a oiled filter is the oil is flamable. when im at the track with my mustang i have to take the k & n off of it. the car back fires thru the carb when i shift on the nitrous. i figured this out the hard way with second degree burn taking it the air filter off the car when it was burning. p.s. the car is .050 quicker without the air filter on it.

Not an urban myth, when a model car only has MAF failures when a K&N style filter is installed, I wouldn't call it a myth. What K&N points out that no Manufacure can automatically deny waqrranty because you have a non-oem part installed, the manufacture/dealer must prove that the non-oem part caused the failure.
