Can u clear coat chrome? Is there a clear coat for wheels? Or how bout chrome acc. like plastic chrome stuff can u clear coat that to protect it? Maybe a shellac or like put a varnish or some type of clear coat to protect against rust and the elements...
Just wondering, any input is appreciated... thanks
I'm going to use Joop's when i finally get to see my truck. Look it up. It was first mainly used on hog chrome but has made its way up to rims. Jeg's is running a sale also.

I use the same wax on the chrome bits that I use on the paint.

i think clearcoating chrome defeats the purpose of having chrome as any hard and clear sealant will cover up the qualities of chrome. plus i think it's already a very durable coating and possibly, nothing will adhere to it. i have heard of sealing polished metals. zoopseal or clear powdercoating; wheel wax? i believe one normally uses chrome polish to maintain that type of finish.
you can clear coat over chrome, but it doesn't hold up as well as if it were over a polished finish. Chrome doesn't need a clearcoat to protect it. However I have seen it done, but if the chrome ever flakes, so will the clear coat, and the finish will be ruined.
I don't recomend clearcoating over chrome.
Autobody man say's:In order to get paint to adhere properly to a plastic or metal part, it must be scuffed with an abrasive. You cannot properly scuff chrome without scratching it deeply.Don't clear chrome! It was never meant to be! The best way to prevent rust on a chromed bumper: Take the bumper off clean and scuff backside of the bumper. Apply a self etching primer and undercoat. Chrome usually rusts from the non-chromed underside outward.
Justify for me why not put a protective coat on chrome wheels that harsh elements and chemicals can eat through and pit. I bet you wax your truck and that paint has a clearcoat to protect it, right?
