Clarification On Remote Start Needed

I have just finished reading all 20 threads with the words "remote start" in the search engine. I am wanting to use the DEI products to add to my 2004 CC SE with the keyless entry. It seems that some of you, and not picking on you Grunge311, just the name I remembered. Have had some luck with just the remote start module, and the universal bypass. I also gather that I will need to have another key that I don't mind losing to install into the bypass. My question is in the operation. If I use the 561T and the 556U, will I still use the FACTORY KEYFOB, or will I have to change to the DEI remotes? I also would like to know where about the cost to have this installed would be. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 bucks give or take? I am fine doing stereo installs, but when it comes to taping into the ignition and computer harnesses, I am willing to have someone else responsible. Thanks for your help, and I hope that one day we will have all the answers to this question.

Re: Clarification On Remote Start Needed

The 561T does not come with any remotes, therefore, you'll be using your own factory Keyfobs.

On an SE, you will need the 555u. It's not as hard to install as the 561T. You just need the spare key. Many have used the Valet key and it's worked fine.

As far as installation goes, some places will do it very cheap, but in that means that they are using crimp connetors and T-Taps.

If one takes their time and does it themselves, you can end up with a better installation that the local shops do by the quicky method. If they swear they solder and shrink tube, then that's the route I'd go... either myself or by a shop.

There's plenty of information on here an plenty of folks to help you if you get stuck. If you've installed stereos, you can likely do this.

Hey bro, I got this setup and u will keep the factory keyfob if u use the 561T. Install shouldnt be so much UNLESS u got people like around here that charge an arm and a leg if u dont buy the product from them...BUT if u buy the product from an authorized dealer they should be able to install for not that much really 100-150 bucks...MAYBE even cheaper depending on where u go. SELF INSTALL isnt that hard though, if u can do a radio and understand digital multimeters and probing and such...it shouldnt be too hard. I installed this and the aftermarket addon alarm to my factory stuff...It all works with the factory keyfob...well good luck

Re: Clarification On Remote Start Needed

First thing we you need to determine is if you have an immobilizer system or not. I don't know XE/SE stuff (I have LE). If you do have the immobilzer then you need the 556u and you will lose your valet key.

If you do NOT have the immobilizer system then I think all you would need would be the 561T. And although I am not really familiar with this unit, from what I understant it remote starts with the factory FOB by pressing Lock 3 times. I also believe that the # of times is programable in the unit, I know it is for a similar one that my sister has in here honda (she has it set to 2 pulses)

When you lock your doors and check back 5 minutes later does your dash have a little key shaped red light blinking on it? That may be an indicator for the immobilizer system.

I installed my remote start (prestige 996a) about 2 weeks ago and the wire information is pretty fresh in my head so if you have any questions about wire locations and colors shoot me a PM I will do what I can to help.

I used the 556u for my transponder bypass, I am not sure what the difference is between the 555u and the 556u?

Re: Clarification On Remote Start Needed

I called a couple of shops yesterday to get some install pricing. I got 150 from Mobile One. They would be happy to do the install for $1, if I bought it from them. LOL. They only needed $399.00 plus tax to purchase. I told him thanks anyway, but I could buy it for $ 100, and he almost fell out. HAHAHA> I am going to have them do it though. The other two places wanted me to drop this idea, and use the Viper/Python full scale system for the low price of $ 530. Jerks. Can I use the valet key? Or do I have to get another one that has the chip in it?

grnge311,

I do have the immobilizer system. I am not sure, but I think that any of our trucks that has the keyless entry does. I have the blinking truck anyway. And once when I thought I was smart for reaching in the open window to unlock the door, the alarm went off when I tugged on the handle.

95wolverine,

Thanks for your response here and elsewhere.

pi3yeargrad,

I can and will do my stereo again and again in search of SQ nirvana, however anytime it involves tapping into the ignition and other such things, I would rather have some accountability. I don't mind drinking the Blue&Gold, and I somehow think that this combined with wiring main harness would not mix well.

Thanks for the help guys, and if anyone else has some input I would appreciate it.

That means you have the alarm, you still might not have the immobilizer. Does anyone know what the diff is between the 555u and the 556u? My 556u has a power, ground, and blue wire that you connect to the blue wire on the remote start, which gives power 3 seconds before start and during start.

Really man it wasn't that hard to install. I think now that I have done one, I could do another Titan in like 2 hours.

Re: Clarification On Remote Start Needed

Two hours Huh? If only you lived like 20 hours closer. LOL. I might look into the self-install once the product shows up. I guess we need someone with a wee bit more knowledge as to the "Immobilizer" questions. I am going to drop a line to the retailer where I found the kit at, and also to Directed themselves and get clarification on the part numbers to achieve what we want. I am pretty sure that the 561T and the 556U are the ones. Will post responses once I get them. Anyone else have input? I think we are close to the light, now as long as the batteries don't go dead. LOL>

Ah Padre Island. Where the beaches are clean again, or at least not nearly as Nasty as Galvetraz. 6 hours is better than 20 though. I will let you know the status once I hear back from the vendor. I am still trying to get the part numbers verified. Thanks

Re: Clarification On Remote Start Needed

Thanks pi3yeargrad, but my boss is an EE. They are the smartest dumb people I know. LOL.

He could probably design and build a system out of misc. resistors and circuit boards, but hook one up with instructions is most likely out of the question. I think that once I get the parts here, and spend a short amount of time looking at the pictures I can figure it out. Especially if they are in crayon.

Re: Clarification On Remote Start Needed

I just got the 556U. Looking thru the instructions, there are 3 methods
to installing the immobilizer antenna ring. Which one is everyone using?
Is it the std hook-up which places the antenna ring in front of the factory
receiver ring? or do I have to splice it into the wires of the factory
receiver?

Thanks
