LED tailights...

Posting this for the guys who tried installing other LED tailights in their existing housing...I read a post where someone was having trouble with the blinking rate of the bulbs..well found these suckers pretty cheap at Wal-Mart for bout 6 bucks...they have the resistors built in em...

They are pretty bright but they dont use the stock housing to their advantage...The stock bulb uses the reflector to shine bright and these from a side view or at an angle arent the best...from straight back or at a slight angle theyre awesome but not as good as stock bulbs in generalI think at least...(Didnt really pay much attention maybe tomorrow I will get a different perspective in the day and night...I finished late and they had already pissed me off by the time I was done after changing out 6 freakin fuses and having to find em...)They blinked just the way the stock bulbs blinked and were alright...I left em on for now since I went through about 6 10A fuses...I had to keep changing out the stop lamp fuse inside the cab and the tailight fuse from inside the hood area...ONCE they even blew the illumination fuse in the hood area so watch out if u try these...THEY ONLY HAVE ONE WAY TO PLUG IN BUT IF U PLU IN THE OPPOSITE WAY, THEY WONT LIGHT AND THEY BLOW A FUSE...kinda sux that they arent marked at least I ddint see I installed at night but never saw any markings even inside the house when I opened the packages...Went through a little hell tryin to figure out which way they went in changin out a fuse each time I did it wrong and trying to find what fuse blew each time...BUT at the end I got it and well Im writing this thread up for u guys...Hope u got something out of it...

Re: LED tailights...

autolumination.com has what they call the matrix bulb that has forward facing and rear facing bulbs to take full advantage of stock housings

well...I really didnt care too much for LED bulbs I got enough light on the tail of my truck with my LOF...I was just posting to give an option to some other peeps and since these bulbs were on clearance I thought what the heck ...did was kinda a followup to some other posts who said they had to put in a resistor...these came with it...

Re: LED tailights...

Thanks for the post.

I got my L.E.D.'s from this site.

http://spectrumled.com/3157_3156.htm ($19 each)

I like them because they have 5 facing and 15 on the sides. Helps it reflect from the housing better.

However, I dont know how well the illuminate during the day. I've heard that some LED's dont show very well in the sunlight.

I'd post a pic today but it is overcast out here today. They do look good at night, IMO. I will post night pic this evening.

I only got the tailights... not the turn signals. You have to buy the load resistors in addition to use those or like you said.. they will blink to fast.

I love the Vulights from Volant, but those are to expensive for me to justify purchasing at this time. Maybe some day...

Re: LED tailights...

Well the sun came out, so I snapped a couple pics with me digi camera.

As you can see, the sun is not directly behind my Titan, but the led brake lights still appear to be pretty effective.

I'll have a couple more later on tonight for the evening pic's. It looks a LOT better.

Re: LED tailights...

Congrats on your 1,000th post!!

I would say they look considerably better... not WAY. I think they do make better use of the reflection in the housing than the stock bulbs. If that makes sense. lol

If I have time this coming weekend I'll put the stocks in and take a night pick for comparison.
