Thumbs up Awesome BACK-UP CAM

OK, I bought a camera a couple days ago and MAN first off shipping was awesome...ordered on Thurs-Friday got here on Monday...The camera was I thought a lil expensive at first but this camera is high quality...Grunge had posted a camera maybe 1 or 2 weeks ago at most... it was great during the day but didnt have the night vision...so I tried this one out from the same people WITH night vision and man it is awesome...if any of u wanna check em out...heres the links from ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=5844738139

I got the night vision 90 degree camera...

Heres how I installed and what was involved in the install....

I made a custom bracket that took me a good maybe hour or 2 to complete...didnt have the right tools and then had to go to the hardware store like 4 times...and well maybe 3-4 hours it took me...lol

The camera and piece of alluminum I bought

After cut with jigsaw the width/length I wanted

MAN this is pretty thick alluminum and I didnt have a circle cutter for metal only wood so I had to drill a hole, cut slits in and out of the circle (from middle outto edge) until I finally got a rugged SOMEWhat circle and then just filed it down till I got a real nice circle...then test fit...

After I bent and hammered...

Then I bent the other side and hammered...this is 16g alluminum so thats why I needed the hammering too get it perfectly straight and smooth...

Then I installed...as of now I havent painted the bracket which I will with gods help tomorrow and I havent stuck the bracket down for good because Im going to paint so I just have it wedged real good...Im either gonna use some epoxy or JB weld to hold it in place OR just tack weld it in...

Then a quick test...

the pic isnt as bright and colorful cuz the sun was already goin down...earlier in the day it was a real nice picture but as the sun goes down the photocell starts kicking in as much as the camera needs and it starts losing a lil color to start goin into black and white - night vision...

and lastly...a pic of night vision...these pics dont do the backup camera justice but in person this is an excellent camera...so if uve been lookin into a good backup cam...this is a nice one to have and only cost about 60 bucks PLUS well all the lil extras I bought like the aluminum, the 18 ft of RCA video wire...they didnt have 18' so I bought a 12' a coupling (which came in a pack of 2) then 6 more feet after I realized it wasnt enough...and other lil stuff...but over all nice easy job...

Re: Awesome BACK-UP CAM

Looks great! Very clean install also. You could also use a U-bracket to clamp down the bracket over the hitch if you wanted. Just make sure it's hard to tell it's a camera, I'm sure that's an easy steal for neighborhood thieves!

Kudos on a job well done. You commented (fussed) about not having the tools you wanted, but it looks like you did a sweet install. Thanx for the post.

Re: Awesome BACK-UP CAM

Sweet man, I may have to trade my non-night vision for that one. I was wondering if you could maybe take some pics of the blind spots, how big they are and stuff. I don't know how you can do that but I'm sure you'll figure something out.

As far as the thief thing goes, you have to really be looking for it to see that its there. And the camera's are pretty cheap comparitivly (i bought my non-night vis one for under $40 shipped) if thats all I have stolen off my truck I would not complain one bit.

Re: Awesome BACK-UP CAM

Great write up and pics! I really want to do this mod but my wife is starting to get onto me for spending more money on the truck lately then her. I guess the house and bills don't count J/K. In the past few months I've added my Gibson (exhaust), Nismo (intake), Planet Audio (amp), Armada Air Dam, and steering wheel audio controls. I've got a monitor from a member here a while back for free no less. I should put it to use! I don't have a hitch, where do you guys think is a good place to mount one of these?

That's good enough for me. I've been waiting to get a backup cam. The ones I was looking at on eBay were being sold by "yanlabonline" or something like that. Theirs looks pretty good with color at night but it's $100 more than the one you got. I'll pick up the one you got. Nice find.

Re: Awesome BACK-UP CAM

How did you get the cable(s) inside the cabin? I want to run one of my backup sensor speaker inside the cabin but I couldn't. Do you have the pictures of the installation?

u need pics of the wire running into the cab for the backup sensors or camera...well either way theyre through the same hole I made in the floor of the cab ...after running the wires through I just filled arround them with silicone...

also sick whip, u could mount one with an L shaped bracket instead like grunge (he has a hitch but same concept)... one side would be attached to the the bottom of the bumper and and the other side would hold the camera...thatd prolly be a little easier and u could screw the bracket with self tapping screws to hold it in place... see my fourth pic and just think of installing but on the other side of the metal, u se how that would work? of course ur bracket would be smaller just good enough to hold the cam on one side of the L...Im sure u get it

Re: Awesome BACK-UP CAM

I get it. Thanks for the advice. Now all I have to do is drug the wife and install. I'm thinking of adding the nav housing and putting the monitor there. Or maybe in the sun visor???

Re: Awesome BACK-UP CAM

INSTALL COMPLETE! This is ther bracket and cam completely installed...

I grinded the bracket down so it could be completely smooth THEN painted black...then waited to dry and regrinded where I was going to apply epoxy to set...I used 1500PSI epoxy and man thats stuffs great...I used thread lock for the camera and done! U can hardly notice it...
