Tailgate Dampening?

I have an '04 Titan and I'm wanting to know if it is possible to add the tailgate dampening/assist mechanism found on '05s and up to my tailgate. I was looking at an '06 the other day and really liked that feature. Is this switch possible? Is the hardware available through Nissan?

Thanks! This is a great website! This site helped me to identify and fix that persisting ticking noise from under the pasenger dash (installing 4gauge ground wire). You have no idea how excited I was to fix that problem!!

I think trying to convert to the 05-06 style dampening gate is pretty intense, but if you do a search there is a torsion bar mod many of us 04 owners did and it works great. I've had mine for over a year, no problems, and even my wife can lift the gate with one finger.....ok, two fingers for her.

Does this thing dampen on the way down as well, or just aide in lifting?

Yes. It's always applying pressure in the upward motion, so as you open it, it is fighting that downward motion.
