Mountain bikes in the bed

I just installed 4 bike mounts in the bed of the Titan, using the utilitrack. The pics show 2 bikes mounted. If I removed the bed divider and bed extender mounts I could easily fit 4 bikes and other gear.

I got the Xport fork mounts from www.performancebike.com for $9.99 each, and used 1/4" Superstrut spring nuts with 1/4" x 3/4" bolts and washers to mount them in the utilitrack. The spring nuts were $2.79 for a pack of 5 at Home Depot. Total cost to mount 4 bikes: less than $50.

Re: Mountain bikes in the bed

I have pretty much the same set up. Used Rocky Mounts instead though and have them mounted behind the cab. Good to know thought that four could fit across.

Good to know. Nice bikes. I ride a Stumpjumper Comp with fox fork.

Re: Mountain bikes in the bed

Thats pretty cool guys, I looked at the real utilitrack mounting option but its expensive. I considered using the track like that but also have the bed divider and wouldnt be able to move it. I was thinking about somehow mounting the wheel holders to the divider. Maybe screw the fork mounts to it. Do those Rocky Mounts lock? It looks like they might.

Re: Mountain bikes in the bed

Yeah, you could bolt down the standard cleats by drilling a couple of holes. I thought about doing the same to mine.

Yeah, I figured I could fit more bikes and gear with them mounted sideways, plus I have the bed extender slid up to the front, so it's blocking the front track.

That's not a bad idea, bolting them to the divider. However, it only takes a minute to remove the mounts with a 7/16" wrench, so I'm not worried about them being in the way. I'll use the mounts much more often than the divider.

I plan on locking the bikes by running a cable through the bikes and the tie-down eyes in the bed.

Re: Mountain bikes in the bed

I'm in the northern part of San Diego county (Carlsbad-ish) and have a Trek 8000 I've barely ridden since I bought it new back in 1998 or so. I'd be up for doing some riding so long as most of it is downhill.
