Question Wheel Help?

Got a question on wheels, I currently have the stock 18" wheels and am looking at replacing them, but am not sure what will fit. I do not like the traditional "spoke" wheels that seem to be everywhere now, I am looking for a directional maybe, like the American racing Jammer II. can someone tell me what may fint, maybe in a 17" or even a 16"?

A lot depends on the tire size, width and height, lifting or lowering, and if you are willing to trim the pinch welds, and remove mud flaps.

The JammerII looks like it only comes in 18" (for our trucks). Note that, it is a truck and SUV, not off-road wheel, meaning it might not handle jumps or even big hits at high speed. Stock 18"x 8" are a +25 offset so the 18" x 8" +19mm offset would be best for those assumming your tires were not really wide and needed additional inner clearance, (although you would gain 6mm (1/4"), of inner clearance).

You can go with 17" inch rims, but any less than that requires grinding calipers etc. I saw one lifted 4 x4 with 16" rims on here and the owner had to grind them. Most people into offroading want 17s.

The stock Off Road pkg. rims are 17" x 7.5" +30mm offset, so if you went with a 17" x 8" a +25mm offset it would keep your inside clearance the same, and would stick out about the same as your current stock rim, 1/2" more than the O.R. rim, (because it is also 8" wide and also has a +25 offset, and wheel dia. doesn't come into play here).

Much of the issues are with rims rubbing the pinch weld, and many grind or beat them into submission. This is supposed to be near the outside of the wheel well, so is more of an issue with wider wheels and more negative offsets. But the offset needs to go somewhat in the negative direction for wider wheels to keep inner clearance the same.

Going from your 18" stockers to an 8 1/2" wide +19mm offset would be the same inside clearance and stick out 1/2" more. Going to a 9" wide, for the same inner clearance you would want +12mm of offset. Not saying that you won't get rubbing on the pinch weld. Tire sizes will matter too for clearances.

Here is an example for the American Racing Mojave 18" x 9.5" rim -24mm offset: 30mm more inside (usually needless), clearance and it will stick out 68 mm more. This wheel will stick out about 2 3/4" and will require trimming.

Same wheel but in 17" x 8" with 0mm offset. Two advantages here. First it is 1.5" narrower. Second the offset is better, (not perfect by any means).
25 mm more inside (usually needless), clearance and it will stick out 25 mm more. This wheel will stick out about 1" and might require trimming. Basically the whole wheel has been pushed out of the fender, except the mounting surface, creating more of a deep dish.

If I ever look after market it will be for a 17" x 8" +25mm to +19mm or maybe an 17" x 8.5" +19mm to +12mm offset. But even with my stock off road alloys I can run 34.5" tall x 12" wide LT315/70/17 BFG ATs with no trimming, because some have done it with just a leveling kit!
