cold air kit

I know this subject has been researched forever, so forgive me for asking. What is the best cold air kit on the market these days? If there is a link for this, just point me in that direction. Thanks for your help !!!

Re: cold air kit

Every vehicle I've had in the past 15 years has had a K&N filter or a FIPK. Now with this truck, I'm thinking about trying something different. I don't know which to go with. Vol, Aem, K&N - I have just K&N filter in now, and want something to go along with my Flowmaster duals.

Re: cold air kit

Injen has been showing the most gain in a lot of cars and trucks for the intake market lately. They are pricey, but I think they work the hardest to customize their setups for specific vehicles.

Re: cold air kit

I seem pretty happy with the airbox snorkel mod and the Amsoil EAa-104 drop in air filter.

Re: cold air kit

dumb question, why would a cold air intake make your ride louder?

Re: cold air kit

Its the open filter design that makes them louder. More air flowing through creates a resonance and generally a sucking sound. I've got the AEM, and in normal cruising, I can barely tell its there (it just has a slight metal ringing noise, cause of the metal tube), but at much more than 1/4 throttle, the sound comes alive. Its not a bad sound at all, just loud.

At WOT open throttle above 4K RPM, it really sounds nice, similar to the way an old carburated engine sounds, with almost an intake pounding/resonating type sound (no clue how to put that into words) that sounds awesome.

Thanks for the info... I don't want any louder than my twin Magnaflows. Is there an alternative for the cold air intake? Any quieter ones out there??

Thanks,
TexasTitan05

The alternative would be the do it yourself airbox mod and a drop in performance filter, either K&N or Amsoil. Probably 2/3 of the cold air intake gains.

I'm thinking about the K&N system...
