I want to install a new muffler but cant decide on what one. Originally the Banks was at the top of my list but I heard a few and decided that it was too loud. I really like the throaty american muscle car sound. That low, almost not nocible rumble sound at idle that roars to life as you accelarate. Anyway, flowmaster and magnaflo seem to be very popular and i am leaning more toward the magnaflo but was hoping for some help from you guys out there. Thanks in advance.
I have always been a fan of the flowmasters. But I have spent most of my life building muscle cars. A muscle car aint a muscle car if it aint got flowmasters. Theyre as american as apple pie.

That is consensus of opinion of sound, that is why I went with a MagnaFlow, didn't want even more noise in cab. But if you are happy with the choice you make, you made the right choice.
EDIT: Bought from my regular dealer, don't know model .
What magnaflow muffler do you have? The ones I've found on the web are universal and there are many choices. I am also looking for a deeper sound but not real loud.
Flowmaster 40 or 50 series. I had the Gibson catback system and i didn't like the sound while under load. I took out the Gibson muffler and put in the 40 series Flowmaster. I love the sound of Flowmasters. I also have the AFE intake.
I've got a Magnaflow it sounds good. It's deep and not too loud unlike my previous Titan which had the Banks which screamed. I've got a 2.5" Single in/ 2.5" dual out. I've got a couple sound clips but can't post them since I have less than 15 total post.
Don't know if this is still the case but when I was researching for my Ford in 03 the MagnaFlow was a superior muffler based on performance. Like I said it's been too long for me to remember where I found that info, but just a thought.....
I've personally had 2 flowmasters on 2 different vehicles and 2 magnaflows on 2 different vehicles...Liked both brands, but the Flowmasters were a little tinny sounding.
Originally I posted regarding just the muffler not the whole system ie: Cat back system. Would the sound be similar adding just the muffler as opposed to the whole cat back??
I just put a custom 3 inch piping from the y-pipe back using the magnaflo muffler and its sounds very nice. it quiet or a very low rumble if you drive normal and if you floor it...it opens up and sounds mean. i was going to just go with the muffler and tip but the sales guy said that if you do that you will only get sound. he said you need at least 3 inch of piping from the y-pipe back to get more hp and torque out of the exhaust. if its true or not i am very happy with the custom exhaust and my brother is going to get it for his armada...
Is it the sound or the quality or something else that you like that pushes you towards the Flomaster over the Magnaflow?
The difference is in the construction of the muffler which is why the sound is different, the magnaflow is a perfforated core muffler, where as the flowmaster has no fiberglass they just reflect the sound waves in different directions to control the sound. Theoretically the magnaflow should make more power than the flowmaster, but it depends on the setup.
